Hordes is a game I've wanted to play and just haven't been able to squeeze into the schedule!
Good to read the review and I'm almost convinced to buy it... but...
I've got Primal and Evolution sitting on my shelf. I've got around 1000 points of models, which with the exception of the starter box set are still unassembled in their boxes and blisters... and I just can't generate enthusiasm to get Metamorphosis. The knowledge that it's going to be obsolete in a year, and that it will probably take me longer than that to get my crap together for a game means I'm probably going to do the sensible thing and save my cash for Mk II and a new faction deck in 2010 (or '11 or whenever the heck its due!) I mean the fluff and artwork is nice an' all, but I just can't bring myself to dump £20 on the book for the fluff and art alone.
My IK gaming is probably going to focus on the WM MkII beta this year anyhow.
It's not PP's fault. Just mine for suffering from Multiple Game System Syndrome. Or Magpieism for short...
But props for the review. Nice to see what's behind the covers!

After getting Warmachine: Legends and Hordes: Metamorphosis I have to say
that as much as I like Warmachine, I'm really starting to love Hordes. As some might know,
I'm drawn to these games for their characters and infantry, but the savage military feel to
Hordes is becoming more and more appealing.
Anyway, thanks for reading.

I have to agree. I was definitely going to get Metamorphosis, but now with it being replaced... Why bother? All the units will be in the enw Hordes book, and most of them are already in No Quarter. It was a real disincentive to pick this up, even just to complete my collection of PP books. I'll wait and see how it goes. Somethign tells me I'll be able to find this cheap before too long.

True. Be sure to at least flip through it to catch the wicked splash pages and eThagrosh, though! (I'm
disappointed they decided to feature Absylonia on the Legion splash page, but hey, you can't win them
all).

PP said when Hordes was released that Warmachine is all about Focus management, but that Hordes is all about Risk management.

Isn't Hordes 2.0 not scheduled until late next year? I never play Hordes and I still bought it. I love all the fluff and stories. Very good book for the money.

Why would 2.0 affect whether or not I buy Meta? The rules come with the models anyway. The only way you'd buy the book for the rules is if you planned to proxy the models - but in that case you'd probably just pirate the book, too.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins. |

PP has said that the fluff won't be reproduced in 2.0. I'm expecting it be a big book with every unit entry, new rules, and not much else. I wouldn't be surprised if it's two or three entries per page for some units.

dietrich: I'm thinking 2.0 will be core rules. They mentioned
faction books and faction decks.
And that's pretty much all we know.
