Howdy all, I just wanted to share some tricks for weathering and painting that might be a little cheaper.

First, I know that MIG weathering pigments are all the rage now. However, if you are a cheap scottsman like me and want to save some money, you can make your own using ground up chalk pastels from your local art supply store. Another benifit is that you dont have to wait three weeks for your mail order to show up.... just pop down to the art store and bobs your uncle.

Second.... If anyone is using tamiya acrylic paints, you might have noticed that the paint gets kinda gummy when you use water to thin it. Tamiya recomends using their thinner (of course). I have found that you can use rubbing alcohol to thin the paint for brushing and airbrushing purposes and you can get a lifetime supply for pocket change at your local grocery store.

Finally, not really a money saver, but definetly a time saver.... Sakura micron felt markers.... .005 width. Instead of pin washing, try outlining with one of these buddies.... they come in multiple colors and are quite handy.

hopefully this will help save some money in these finiancially straining times..... and if anyone has any other money saving tricks, please share.

Painting again after years on hiatus and these seem really great! Can't wait to try them out when I get to my Marque figures and vehicles.

lol, While putting together my new ork army most of my boyz are AoBR orks (hence not as detailed as regular boyz) All of the boyz have the same color scheme as the mob they are in but are pretty generic except 3-5 (depending on size) in each mob will be painted with much more care and detail indicitive of their mob. They are the face of the mob, hence "marque" and are standard ork boy models.

Rabenga - what's rubbing alcohol called in the UK?
After smelling the Tamiya stuff I thought 'nail varnish remover'.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

What is pin washing? Anyone know of a tuturial? Searched for this term on the forum but pulled nothing up.
