Does anyone know of any Codex Chapters of Space Marines that were I to use a lot of robed marines it wouldnt look totally off? I mean, obviously Ultramarines are probably out, lol, but has anyone seen any other "monastic" themed chapters?

I was all about playing Dark Angels, but then I started thinking about all the new rules from the new Space Marine Codex. I like the idea of more than one heavy weapon in a Terminator Squad, I also like the idea of 3+ Storm Shields, Heavy 2 Cyclone Missle Launchers. There's plenty of other things too, of course.

Can anyone offer some ideas on this, before I go and paint a bunch of Dark Angels in some other crazy colors?

Thanks!

Honestly you could easily make a dark angels sucessor chapter

Honestly I dont know why more Space Marines arnt dress wearing girlies, considering how monastic they are meant to be

I guess. Not really what I meant though.

I was thinking along the lines of having a buncha dark angel figures and not being sure if I wanted to play the chapter anymore. Playing a Successor Chapter doesnt totally solve my problem though, as Im sure they still fall under the Dark Angels Codex. I just think it's crappy that a Dark Angel/Blood Angel/Space Wolf/Black Templar Storm Shield/Cyclone Launcher/Typhoon Launcher and so on, arent the same. Im pretty sure they have the same name, so how is it they cant do the same thing?

I was asking more so if there are any other Chapters out there that run a robed theme, or am I left with two choices: Put them in a box, or make my own robed Chapter.....

Anyone with comments that are a little more useful?

Dude, you can use the Normal Marine codex with Dark Angels models.

Also Space Wolves use the new rules.

I play a very heavily themed 5th Company and Deathwing Dark Angels army... and use the normal SM codex. Absolutely nothing wrong with this. No one has every complained, my Termies can ride with a hero in a non-Crusader variant LR, better options. Just go for it!

Perfect, I have 9000 points in green marines, and I switch between both codexes.

Dark Angels tend not to make successor chapters for the same reason that Blood Angels do not-- they are secretly Chaos and don't want anyone to find out.

But, every now and again the Imperium makes a successor chapter using their geneseed anyway and those chapters tend to behave like the original.

If you check your Dark Angels codex you'll see that there are the Angels of Vengance, Angels of Redemption, Disciples of Caliban, Angels of Absolution, Guardians of the Covenant and the Consecrators given as successor chapters that would look, behave and play just like Dark Angels. If none of these are suitible to you, make your own Unforgiven successor chapter.

Although-- do remember that the robes, the monasteric appearance, the various colored squads and so forth were done to give Dark Angels a unique look when compared to UltraMarines. Idealy, if you were to make your own chapter you could come up with bitz and greenstuff your own unique look for your chapter so that it would stand out on the table every bit as much as Dark Angels, Blood Angels or Space Wolves does.

Yeah, 9k points of DA would be awesome to see all together. You should make a thread in P & M, thekyle!

Erm, you could simply give them robes and state them as a new chapter using some other chapter's gene-seed who wear robes for some reason or the other. I've actually wanted to do the same thing some time or another

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

How do you figure you would get more than one heavy weapon?

Codex: Ultramarines (It's about as much a "Space Marine" codex as the High Elves army book is the Necron Codex) allows Regular Terminators to take one heavy weapon for every 5 models in the unit (one at 5-9 models, two at 10 models)

I think he was referring to the weapon profile on the Cyclone launcher...

kinda like referring to Sonic Blasters as Assault 2/Heavy 3 bolters.

Yeah, just use C:UM rules. Nobody will care. Unless they play Ultras, and then they will welcome your heretical chapter back to the fold ;-)

I completely agree with GWAR!! (Btw, gwar kicks a$$). There is NOT a GW inquisitorial squad passing unseen from store to store, making sure that if you're using BT or DA models that you're using the proper codex or else. I run an army out of the BT codex, using BT models with some DA bits mixed in. Please note that while the IDEA was cool, DA robes with BT tabards do not work. Eventually, ill want to use the SM codex. There is nothing stopping me.
Anyhow, do what you wand with your minis. But don't shelve a great looking army because for whatever reason, you get the heebiejeebies using the codex.

Aww thank you

-Internet Huggles-

The main problem I have noticed with people wanting to use Codex: Ultramarines to represent Dark Angels Battle Companies is sour grapes from people who play SPESS MAHRINES and want to be able to beat the DA players to the ground.
Personally, I feel for the DA players, having been screwed over my GW for many a year (I play Space Wolves and have a small Dark Eldar force too ), so whenever I play against the resident Deathwing Player, I have no problems letting him use the new Equipment rules. All it does is change anti-termie tactics from "LOL Plasma for Great Justice!" to "Hey, you gotta roll a 1 sometime, BOLTERSPAMâ„¢ go go go!"
