Apologies for posting yet another thread here, but I was kind of curious as to why avatar images autoreplace transparencies with black?

Sorry if there is some obvious answer I am too dumb to see.

All images uploaded to dakka are rewritten to prevent exploits like embedded code in images or multi-megabyte avatars. The rewriting software does not support transparency so it makes it black.

I was really hoping for some awesome Eldar avatar with clear resin body parts

I've just replaced my avatar's background with the dakka background grey. The jpg probably messed it up, since you can just see a box if you look closely.

EDIT: Ahah, there's a border as well. There wasn't one on the profile edit page, which I was looking at before. I also forgot that the thread lists alternate between that and a slightly lighter shade of grey. Just ignore my advice, really.
