Etched brass is used in detailing kits. It is used for fine detail like engine hatch grills, the sails and ratlines on 1:200 scale ships and other items which are too thin (in scale) to be reproduced in plastic or white metal.
Also known as photo etched brass. Here are a couple of examples:

Adding that little bit more detail to a small space without much effort. You can bend it to get it in the correct shape and lots of other things, but basicly just to make your minis look that bit nicer.
