I've been working on resurrecting my Imperial Guard army for the upcoming codex, but I wanted to do something a bit different. So I've been doing some conversion work (although admittedly my modeling and painting skills are not the best) with the goal of having a mostly Nurgle-themed Renegade IG Army.

My guardsmen look something like this (still needs to be based):

So, I'm wondering...what would be the best models to use as "Counts As" Commissars to keep with the "Nurgly" theme?

Right now I'm thinking either the FW Plague Marines:

or the FW Renegade Militia Enforcers:

I like the look of the Plague Marines a bit more, and it could be cool fluff-wise. The enforcers would be slightly more WYSIWYG though.
Any thoughts or other ideas?

Yeah the plague marines would be cool, I can see a few plague marines herding a horde of diseased and zombified guardsman into battle. I also have seen a nurgle preacher or priest on FW that you might consider.

This would be a really cool apoc force with death guard support and maybe some daemons

You just need some form of greatcoatclad, enforcer/taskmaster or whatever. A whip would look nice. What would be really cool is if he looked like he 'replaced' the previous commissar, and wearing his still bloody coat.

Seriously? I can't believe this technically is a post.

I would not use plague marines because they obviously have power armor and commissars don't. There are lots of cool conversions that you can do without using plague marines.

Nice conversion. It really fits with the nurgle theme of your army. I never would have thought of using the town crier model but it looks great.

That's the idea that I'm working towards. I especially want to be able to use the Chaos Doomsday Device in an Apoc game. heh.

Yeah, that would be the issue with using them - not WYSIWYG. I was thinking I would use them for friendly games, but something else like the Enforcers for tourneys and such.
Mostly though - I just love the models, and wanted an excuse to use them without starting another army.

I admit they are probably not the best choice.

That is certainly an option. I actually already have the models, but right now the plan was to use the one with the speakers for a Psyker Battle Squad "Handler," and the other one as a standard bearer for a Company HQ. I could still swap 'em around though.

I really like that conversion actually. Nice job.

Thanks for all the responses!

Hmmm...lots of ideas to consider.

How about f'n Commissars? Just a hunch, but you could probably use a Commissar to "count as" a Commissar. I'll bet your opponents would be able to keep it straight, too. Good sport and all that.

If you're using the regular cadians, you could use the FW chaos renegades militia as nurgly commissars.
