Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

Today my 3 Defiler Box Sets arrived and after the initial excitement wore off and I resumed regular breathing I spent about 3 hours clipping pieces off sprues and blue tacking together ideas for my three defilers! I have Plague Marine troops, a Tzeentch lord (which you can check out in my other thread) and am planning on adding some khornate terminators and land raider, although I MIGHT change that to be 3 khornate dreadnaughts. As such I decided that each defiler should be dedicated to one god. I first made the spider as a tribute to Nurgle, I think it's going to look good when I actually start adding on all the Nurgle details! Second was a Snake, which I thought is be-fitting to Tzeentch and I haven't actually seen any one convert a defiler in to a snake before! After the tests I came up with the idea shown below. Keeping in mind that I have yet to cut any pieces or add any detail (for fear of changing my mind) I think that it looks GREAT! The finished project should come together awesomely! Finally, and less enthusiastically, I made the khornate defiler. I am not so happy with this one, it is an over-done conversion, and will still be difficult to pull off successfully! I was thinking perhaps a Scorpion might be better, but once again over done and difficult to do make it an unattractive prospect! I have only ever converted one vehicle (a simple rhino conversion) and a Hive Tyrant (really easy to do since Nids are so versatile) so my experience with Large Scale Conversions is not great. That said I am open to any C&C since I want my $200 worth of sexy mini's to look the best they can!

All three lined up:

The Nurgle "Spider":

The Tzeentch "Snake":

The Khorne "Crab??":

Also keep in mind all weapons (including the arms on the "Crab") will be magnetized for easy removal/changing. Also all top parts (ie. the driver or hatch, or the "Heads" that I have not attached) will be magnetized for interchangeability. Also on a side not if any one has seen the chaos driver thats given on the chaos defiler 'Bits' sprue he has a handle for the heavy bolter that looks like he's holding a game controller. I plan to use some green stuff and fine painting skills to convert this to an xbox controller to add some 'spice' to army, I think all my opponents will fill extra burnt when they are blown to pieces by little guy holding a controller rofl!

I dunno...

Hmm... The Serpent shape is more Slaanesh than Tzeentch, A Bipedal Defiler would be more Tzeentchian IMO (and cooler!)

I like the look of what you have started. The crab looks good, I think the problem I have with it is that the claws are not exaggerated enough. With some GS, you could make a nice shaped claw that could look really wicked. Loads of spikes, and maybe a couple of impaled SM body parts stuck to it. I think that you could make it look really good. Scorpions have been done enough. Just my .02

Huge claws? SM on spikes? Now that's what I call Khornate.

Just do as ixlar said and everything should go well with it

Since Tzeentch is all about deception and scheming, and the snake is symbolic of deception and scheming I thought it fits it nicely!

Ok so the crab is staying, just add heaps of spikes and make the claws as HUGE as possible!

These are still a WIP there will be many more shots to come, the more work I do on them the better shots I'll take, including a 360 shot lol

Thanks all for the C&C!

Maybe you should blog the conversion. Could be cool to see.

Blog... it... what do you mean? Can't I just have a topic running with picture updates? I plan to have about 4 topics, one for each project, and then a 5th topic with the finished army
