First off, I was rather disappointed with "legion". I most definitely thought it was a farcry from the enjoyment I got out of "Horus Rising". Is "Legion" more of Dan Abnett's writing style? Should I even bother with "the founding" Gaunt novels if i didnt like legion?

Spoiler:
anyhow, There were a couple of things that seemed out of place in the book. The first one was the "giant lizards" that appeared in the city after the alpha legion's cover was blown. Do deamons often manifest in Lizard like forms? They seemed more like natural wild life then patrons of any of the dark gods.

My next question is about Alpha legion's use of psychers. I thought this book took place after the Emperor put the ban on psychers. Was the Alpha Legion using them without the Emperor's consent? I could understand if they were already doubting the Emperor. They had the nerve to proclaim that the Emperor's plain was unachievable and thus completely doomed to failure, after all. Plus they were using them in secret. However, the Geno Five-Two Chiliad where using Uxors, who were in fact, low functioning psychers. A imperial army couldnt possibly be able to use that many Uxors without taking notice from Terra.

any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Dunno i realy enjoyed it, but the alpha legion were incredibley secretive, the emporer probaly knew near to nothing about them.

Dont forget that the Geno Five-Two Chilad was an old regiment from Terra, which helped the Emperor to pacify it. Most of this regiment were later disbanded upon orders from the Emperor, but some had earned his respect or whatever you want to call it, so he let them remain as active units. So I think Terra knew about their Uxors, but they were psykers on such a low level, that nobody saw any danger coming from them.

Yeah, I even think I can remember that being said in the book as well. The uxors really didnt have a lot of power, other than the ability to basically control their forces more effectively.

Alright, what about the massive amount of lizards? where they manifestations of deamons? (and if so, which god) or where they merely local wild life that the populace was somehow able to control?

Also, part the reason why I didnt exactly like "legion" was because it seemed Alpha was too easily swayed to chaos. Infact, most of the legions, except the lunar wolves, seemed to break their ties with the emperor on a whim. I really dont think you can accurately convey that sort of fall from grace in one book. It just seemed to me that the Kabal gave a weak argument and and a flash power point. I wasnt too impressed :\

Ok, IIRC, i think the giant lizards were controlled by the Chaos forces, they weren't actually daemons themselves.

Secondly, I thought that a LOT of the old legions had retained their Librariums. Magnus helped the introduction of Librarium departments, and after the Council of Nikea they were banned. However, many chapters had got used to their new toys and 'delayed'. Then the heresy started out, and then everyone conveniently forgot about it. Hence why we still have Librarian departments in the 41st Millienium. Something like that anyway...

to answer the OP;

legion wasnt one of his better works, i would certainly rate it lower than the ghosts series, and eisenhorn.

dont let it put you off of his better works, legion was a bit of a rush.
