Now that the Imperial guard stuff is out the way pretty much we can all focus on planetstrike, which looks to be shaping up quite nicely. We've all seen pretty solid info about planetstrike but just in case your lazy or have been under a rock for a while i might as well write a quick BASIC summery.
PLANETSTRIKE - A Warhammer 40K suppliment
This is a expasion to warhammer 40,00 that has the rules and infomation to play a battle of plantery invasion. A player(s) is elicted the attacker(s), the other the defender(s). The following is summed up below:
Attackers
- Most likely get first turn
- FOC changed, troops not a min requirement (HQ still is, it just means you can field a valid force comprised entirely of elite forces if you wish). Elite and fast attack slots doubled!!!
- Whole army deep strikes regardless of rules
- The reserve rolling table has been greatly shortened. Reserves will arrived automaticly on turn 3 (meaning that turn 2 reserves have a 2+ to enter, etc)
- May place craters
Defenders
- Gets to decide defending terrain
- FOC changed, Heavy support doubled!!!
- Defence emplacements useable (bunkers, gun turrets, etc)
General
- New Games workshop gaming terrain!! Lots of it. So far comfirmed is a awesome looking dark angel fortress, a landing pad (perfect for a IG valk for example) and several other peices.
- Many new models released on the day as well including the white scars chapter master Khan, the salamandar forgefather Vulkan, the ironclad dreadnaught and a plastic trygon.
Seeing that we have a few months to prepair for incoming invasions i would like to see the bastions who would be defending or attacking. Just something like this:
--------Example--------
106th cadian regiment - Attacker
company command sqaud
platoon A - 50 guardsmen, 20 conscripts, 3 heavy weapon teams, platoon command sqaud
platoon B - 50 guardsmen, 3 heavy weapon teams, platoon command sqaud
3xleman russ battle tanks
3xleman russ battle tanks
3xleman russ battle tanks
3xVendetta's
3xVendetta's
3xVendetta's
3xVendetta's
3xVendetta's
3xVendetta's
-------Example end-------
Don't matter about points here (most likely people with combind planetstrike with apoc to make some really crazy battles). Just list your ideal planetstrike army

I would be quite worried about the huge amount of tanks the IG could field if they were defending

A LRBT is 150 points per tank. Times that by 18... Oh my.. 2700 points...and that's without any form of upgrading too.
Surely would be Apoc planetstrike only ;p
However 18 tanks charging the enemy would put a serious dent in anyone day, both army wise and the player mentaly

If you're going into Apoc, the changed Force Org charts are meaningless. We can already do eigtheen Leman Russ tanks.
I'm not sure how I feel about this expansion. This looks like it'll punish highly mobile forces. How are 'Nids/DE going to be handled? Always attacker?

92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.
This music is: The big 4 of thrash [Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax], AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera, Led Zepplin, Guns n Roses, and so on with most rock and metal.
95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why couldn't Nidz be Defender? I cant speak for DE, as i have never played them, but Nidz, they seem like they would actually play well in a defense setting, big bugs holding down the fort, waiting for the inevitable charge, little bugs/gene stealers countercharging.

Nids would do fine both ways. Extra Elites? Add more Carnifex. Extra Heavy Support? Add more Carnifex. Actually, I do not think either role will make a difference for them!
As a primaryly Sisters player, Planetstrike does not seem to offer anything for me. My regular opponents are all pretty under-whelmed by it too, for their own various reasons, so I could see this one falling pretty flat around my area.

since they have re structured the force charts then this wont be apoc.
it wouldnt simply ruin the whole idea of it
they will be large scale games, but not using apoc rules me thinks
and as for 2,700 points for 18 russ's, i can do the same thing with kill kannon wagonz
Edit: Fex's wouldnt have too much fun here
lots of massed shooting will hurt them alot lol.
allthough a 9 fex army sounds fun.
shame there is still a limit on thropes, thrope x18 = a plan

As a Gaurd player I would opt to defend with my favourite tactic - gunline! This has now been bolstered with the 'First Rank Fire - Second Rank Fire' rule. As many Heavy weapon teams as I can take and a couple of Leman Russ to hold the line (notably a Punisher) and I'm set to defend anywhere. Also, I have lots of scenery so I am made to be a defender.
