Ok so, not being able to find a job and sapping my funds to almost nothing has made me rather desperate (I have 59 Dollars to my name)

I'm looking to see if people would be willing to commission me for their miniature painting. Here are some samples of stuff I did for myself, and will post more if asked.

I'm thinking depending on the level of detail you are looking for it's gonna range from 40 - 50 per squad (of 10 models depending on size and detail)
That breaks down to about 5 dollars per model, this is negotiable though. so give me some ideas of what you'd like to pay.

I jsut really need money. So if you need something painted up pretty well. Let me know.

Will paint for food. (Not really)

Hi blessed! If you dont mind me making a recommendation o_o?

Take pic of finished product before varnishing xD
and then one after i guess .

Because the gloss really throws off the original color ( which is unfair for you right? )

I think they would. You do nice work. You might want to start off at your local game store though.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Got any old armies you dont want.

Put them on eBay.

there is a way to make money out of this and a way to lose money. The way to win money is by presentation, lots of pictures , with close ups full descriptions inventoried contents a good theme and some conversions to make the purchasers new army unique.

Always always always take the pictures against a mood setting background, not on the kitchen table. presentation is everything, do this and set a professional price as the starter bid and chances are someone will bite.

Oh and improve your basing, its easy to do, nice trim colours consistency and no crud on the rim.

Get this right and you can make money buying painting and selling whole armies so long as you are good and stick to conventional colour schemes.

touch up an old army see what you get for it and work it out from there.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

You do some decent Above table Top work there.
I only see 2 problems.
1) Finish. Your models are too glossy. You should use a good FLAT matte sealer.

2) Unknown. YOU haven't really been around any of the online sites yet for people to get to know you that well. A couple months and a few hundred posts doesn't really do it for most people.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not making any accusations. I'm just saying that is where you're going to hit a hurdle in getting people to trust you.

Have you checked to see if there are any established painters that might not be too far from you? Maybe you can work through them, piggy-backing off of their reputation, until you establish one of your own?

Good luck with it! Hope you do well.

Hate to do this but I'm pretty much out of options.

I took Tom up on his offer to paint for me. Sent him some figs and two months later for a job that was supposed to take two weeks I have nothing to show for it. In good faith I sent him half the money for the job up front.

Below are some excerpts from the emails we have exchanged.

Hey Paul,

Sorry about the long wait, I just got a new job and it's killed a lot of free time for me, so painting time has been cut down to the weekend pretty much.

Attached are the pictures and they will definitely be done this week, i have some a free night thursday night, all that's left is a few spot colors, the bases, and touch ups.

The inquisitor will have to be done with the next batch, he's been started but still needs a lot of work, i'm gonna take my time on him to make up for the delay with the catachans.

Sorry,

Tom

From june 22nd from me to him..

I hope you had some time to work on this stuff over the weekend.

How are we looking?

Thanks!

Paul

No reply and then in June 24th I send this message.

Hey Tom,

Let me know where you're at on this. We are way over the expected due date, and while that is fine. I do want to play with them soon so I can get ready for the various tournaments I'll be attending.

A heads up on the progress is all I need here. Not being 'finished' is fine but I need to know.

Thanks!

-paul

I get this reply

They are ready to send out, It's gonna take me a few days to get to the post office, will send them out friday the latest, and i'll get you pictures as soon as i can get my hands on my Girlfriends camera.

On June 28th I send this message:

Hey hey.

Were you able to get these out over the weekend as expected?

Thanks!

-paul

I hear nothing back and even give him a call or two on his cell (he gave me the number early on in the deal so I send this.

Tom,

I've tried to give you a call a couple of times and haven't heard anything back. I think it has been long enough since you say you sent the package that I should have received it. Because of the holiday I am willing to give it a couple more days.

I need to hear from you about the status of these figures. I understand you may be busy with work and when you took the job on you were between jobs. That does not mean that getting my items back to me is not important.

If I haven't heard back from you, or gotten the package, in a couple of days I am going to need to pursue other methods like the internet, your local game stores or the authorities - which I really freaking do not want to do since you seem like a really nice guy. So that is not a threat, you've just got in excess of 150.00 dollars of money I have paid to you and my items tied up right now. Not to mention that accounts for about half my IG army troops and I can't play it without those things.

So, you tell me what you want to do and what I expect. What was supposed to be a two week job has turned into almost two months so we need to resolve this quickly so we can both stop worrying about it.

-Paul

He replies to me that he went out of town and the box was returned to sender and he thinks he messed my address up. He then tells me that he will overnight the box to me and refund my money. I respond with 'great.'

and then he sends the email below. He also told me that the overnight service would deliver to me on Sunday. This was last sunday and I have yet to get box or hear from Tom.

I sent back to him:

No funny business this time. Lets get this bad boy to me Also, go ahead and send the inquisitor back with them if you haven't already gotten it in the box.

To restate, I do think you are good guy and I am sure this is just fumble!

On july 13th I send this.

Ok.

Still no package. I am pretty much at the end of my patience.

Two boxes of Catachan - 22.00 each - $44.00
5 packs of melta guns - 6.00 each - $30.00
Limited Edition Inquisitor Figure - 25.00-35.00 - $30.00
Painting payment - $55.00

Total so far 159.00 US.

I need a tracking number or that amount sent to my paypal account immediately.

I am not sure why you are trying to delay this any further. This needs to be resolved in the next day or so or my options are extremely limited at this point.

I understand you have the best intentions but those best intentions are not helping us right now or apparently getting my figures to me. What this is translating to is fraud and fraud across state lines and through the internet is serious.

-paul

So here we are 2 months after this started and I'm out the above. I left him a message saying that if I don't have the figures by the time I get back in town on Monday then I am just going to let the cops and paypal handle it. I've got his address and his cell number. Shouldn't take long at all for them to track him down.

Seriously, I hate to do this but it is what it is.

This is unfortunate...

I've dealt with Tom before in the swap shop and we had what I would consider a good deal - not perfect, mind you - but both sides went away happy.

I don't understand who you're "correcting" with this?
The OP (who posted this thread 2 months before the new guidelines), or someone responding?

Also, I have 2 more questions:

1) When were these new rules enacted? July 14? I didn't get any notifications of via email or PM and didn't see a post on them (will have to go look actively, now). They're new to me.
2) When were you made a Mod? It's not showing on your profile? <------Not being "snarky" there. Just a straight question. The Internet does not always convey "tone" properly.

@Eric:
1) We put up the new rules July 14. We've been editting threads old and new to follow the new guidelines. That post is a generic post we've been putting to let people know about the changes and to inform them that we've been editting titles.
2) GoFenris, Ketara and I were made Mods about a week ago to look after the Swap Shop just to make sure everything ran smoothly without taking time away from the regular Mods. As such, we've only Mod-rights to the Swap Shop, and there was fiddly-ness with coding that Lego didn't want to deal with, so we don't get [MOD] tags.

Ah.
That helps clear it up nicely.
Thanks for the info, and I'm glad to see my post wasn't taken out of context.

I expect that not having MOD tags will cause a bit of confusion for you. Huh?
Also, you might want to word the generic notice a bit. it looks as if the OP is being berated for something that wasn't even a rule when the post was made (though, in this case, a little berating seems to be the least of his worries. Huh?).

Thanks
