I'm fairly new to playing IG and am wondering if when building a mechanized list is it worth the extra 15 points to put extra armor on my chimeras?
It seems expensive to do across the board and in my current list it runs 75+ points.
My main worry is losing the ability to keep my transports rolling towards their targets.

Should I use this upgrade selectively, across the board, or not at all?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No, don't take it.
If the Chimeras cannot move, you shouldn't care.

The problem with extra armor is that it only downgrades 1 result out of 6. For 15 points you can do much better. Unless you only have 1 transport that MUST get there, it's not even remotely defensible as a war gear choice. It was almost worth taking when most books had it at 5 points, but only if you had left over points.

Its not really worth it anymore. Especially when you consider Chimeras get smoke launchers for FREE now- yeah its only one turn but you don't have to pay any points for it.

Thank you for the input folks, I'm used to 5 pt extra armor on my WH rhinos.
Again thanks you all.

The only upgrades I would ever consider taking on my chimeras are Heavy Stubber and/or Dozer Blades (on a terrain heavy board).

I vote for use them selectively. It allows you to ignore a lot of glancing hits and keep rolling.

Your pillbox units don't need it but the advancing units do.

Not at all. Like Notabot said it is one result on the table and it cost 3 times as much as it did in the old books.

About the only time Extra Armor is worth it at the new inflated cost is with a Land raider full of Assault Terminators where you must get there and your already paying tons of points.

It's still useful to avoid traffic jams on heavy terrain boards. You can move the shaken tank out of the way, allowing your other units to keep moving and keep line of sight.
