After playing a few games with Eldar this has come up a few times.
So here is a list of questions concerning the use of Eldritch Storm.
I hope I can get some constructive reasoning on the following queries...

Thanks in advance.

1: Does Eldritch Storm require line of Sight?

2: Does Eldritch Storm scatter?

3: Can Eldritch Storm be used while the model is inside a Wave Serpent?

4: Do models recieve a cover save as normal? Or is cover worked out from the centre of the template?

5: Are vehicles hit on the armour facing the model or side armour?


My own feelings on this are:

1: No

3: Yes
4: Cover save as normal
5: Facing Armour value

I think its:

Eldritch storm is used in the shooting phase instead of a weapon making it a Psychic Shooting Attack. Meaning you need to follow normal shooting targeting.

Fix'd. Wave Serp has no Fire points, so you cannot use it

Actually you cant draw LoS from inside a waveserpent to an outside target because it has no firepoints, so you cant actually shoot eldrich storm from inside a waveserpent. The other eldar powers dont require LoS so they can be used from inside a serpent.

hmmm right... except the codex says this at the start of the section dealing with Psychic Powers:

"Unless otherwise noted, these powers work as described in the Psychic Powers section of the warhammer 40,000 rulebook, are used at the start of the eldar turn and do not require the Eldar psyker to have line of sight to a target."

Then the Eldritch Storm power reads.

"This psychic power is used in the shooting phase instead of firing a weapon. The Eldar player places the large blast marker centered on an enemy model within 18".
Vehicles touched by the template suffer a hit with 2D6+3 armour penetration and are spun around to face in a direction determined by the scatter dice - if a hit is rolled the Eldar player may choose its facing"

Yes but it is a Psychic Shooting attack. They need LoS. Notice the "Unless otherwise noted" part of the rule.

It is true that Eldric Storm does not need LoS to he Target to Cast it, however it cannot do anything to the target if he doesn't have LoS.

I think you are reading this wrong Gwar.

Unless otherwise noted these powers follow the rules in the BRB are used at the begining of the players turn and require no line of sight.

This is all one sentence each one of those 3 points are clearly delivered.

Now this clearly says that the power entry must say it requires a Line of Sight. Just as Mind War does.

ES does not require LOS but you can't fire out of a Waveserpent as it has no Fire Points and ES is a psychic shooting attack which require a Fire Point.

So then from my original questions it is

1: No
2: Yes
3: No
4: Cover saves as normal
5: Facing armour value

I think my final question would be. What happens if a warlock or unit attached to the Farseer fires on a vehicle that has had Eldritch Storm fired upon it?

Does Eldritch Storm get cast first? Thus possibly rotating the vehicle to another armour value before the rest of the unit fire?
Or are all hits resolved before the vehicle is rotated?

All of a units shooting is simultaneous, so all the shooting is resolved on the facing originally facing the unit.
