The goal for my Ork army is to be all plastics, thus the Killas go bye-bye. I've been wracking my brain on what to use as a basis for my conversion. I've got the Deff Dread solved however... So... Sentinels?

They're some of the first things I did, so they're not pretty, but they always seem to be crowd pleasers.

In terms of cost, sentinels are the way to go I think, especially for the legs. You might want to re-build the cockpit, make it squarer and seal it up of course, plus the new kits come with all sorts of extra weapons begging to be looted.

Sentinel legs look great, but aren't cheap (unless you can think of a cunning way to stick feet on the spare leg bits?)

I'd like to convert Ogres by having them carry weapons under the control of grots sitting in armoured packs on the ogres' backs. Too weird?

I'd also considered doing something with a pile of spare terminators I have - creating 4-legged walkers.

For orks? I'm not entirely convinced there is such a thing

However, I like the idea, but do you need to include the grot? Why not just use the head from a Nob and put it on the absurdly large body? Fluff-wise you could make them the result of a mad dok's 'Alkemikal Speriments' and that, while huge and very tough, they are also very stupid and/or insane.

Thats a cop out, and also just looks ridiculous. Ive seen it done, and its terrible. I like the ogre/grot idea tho. That would be pretty damn cool

I'm not convinced
I think it could be really well done if modeled and posed right - growing huge mutant orks sounds like the kind of thing they'd try!
I didn't like the idea about the ogre/grot combo - it seems too Master Blaster to me and well, I'm not a fan of that film

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Is it important for you to use GW stuff? If not, use these as a basis:

http://www.thewarstore.com/product26435.html

Easy conversions, and at $10.00 for three you can build a large Killa mob fast (as I'm currently working on).

What was your solution for Dreads?

Oh, I really... Like REALLY like those. AT-43 or what-not is pre-assembled/pre-painted, correct? I suppose another question is whether or not GW stores allow you to field models like these...

@Alazahr - How are you going to make a giant into a deffdred :p I mean I dont want to stem any enthusiasm 'cos I think it would be bitching.

Just abit confused about how that would work.

Whoever posted that link to those walkers, the AT-43's is pure genius. I think thats definatly a road to go down for converted kans, and making sure that they actually look orky there shouldnt be a problem fielding em

Yiup, Ive seen a few of those 43's converted into dreds. I think they might be a tad large for kans tho. I could be wrong but I think those are closer to drednaught size then kans

Well, I'll be posting a WIP "blog" shortly. It'll be Orky... Heh. That's for sure. Stay tuned! I'm really digging those too. I think I'll be picking up all three sets to give me all 9 Kans I can field.

You havent linked to Kanz, you have linked to MANz. This is not a problem, with a plastic only ork army Meganobz are as out of the question as regular metal kans, until you buy these big bad comrades and make 'em orky.
Some players are already using them as such. Lunahound has some on her galleries, mine are in the post, some for Red Blok, others for orkification. Kolossi are prefect size and shape for Meganobz, i.e. about 30% smaller than Kans.
Let me see if I can steal a picture for you....

All this reminded me of an old thread where someone use GW paint pots as the chassis for kans.

Here is the link, funnily enough it covers points I made immediately above.

Nah I don't think it's too weird - infact, it's just the right amount of weird I had the same idea, but haven't gotten around to it.

@Converter, bloody brilliant Kanz! Simply awesome.

I'd like to know if anyone has a size comparison photo of the AT-43 Dragomirov Kolossus shown here compared to a Killa Kan?

http://www.thewarstore.com/product43032.html

-J.

P.s. Any AT-43 out there able to tell me if the Red "Kolossus" is all the same size... Or?

Well, those ones are certainly amusing. Nice job on the grotzookas.

I've scratchbuilt my own kans, but I'm not sure how well they've turned out. They're a little too lacking on the details. I think you have to patient with these kind of things.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

The Dragomirov is the same size as the Kolossus, it just has a different paint job and weapon load-out. Yea, the picture make it look huge - they also come as a 3 pack. Interestingly enough, they are articualted at the arm/shoulder and leg/hip joints.

Agreed Kingcracker,I think the AT-43s would be excelent MegaNob fodder,a few of those, some plasticard & some converted PKs (see Da Waaagh for details) and you could have a mob of MegaNob for the low.
More on topic, but still on the subject of low cost builds, didn't Luna,at some point,do a mock up of Killa kanz conversions using empty GW paint bottles for the bodies?
