Hey there, Dakkaites. I'm Alan, a senior at Rutgers University and a new 40K... um... enthusiast? I'd say player, but I haven't managed to get a real game in, yet. I found out about 40K a few years ago and had a passing interest, but never pursued it. A while back, for unknown reasons, I got the itch again and started looking over rulebooks and building terrain out of whatever scrap I could find (always been one to tinker when bored). Recently, I've started working more and building up a bit of spare cash, so I did the only sensible thing - invest it. In AoBR. Since then, I've been scouring eBay for deals and slowly accumulating my forces. I still haven't decided on a particular army, so I'm slowly building both Orks and SM.
Now I'm at the point where I need to do two things: 1) get in some play time and 2) paint up my forces. After all of ten minutes online, I found DakkaDakka and fell in love. Plenty of inspiration, as well as solid tips on painting and play. I've been lurking for a bit, but it's time to get my ass in gear. Once I get my hands on some paint or some opponents, I'll hopefully have something to contribute to the community. Well, I know I'll have something, I just hope it's something good instead of a warning not to do as I have done. Well, I think that's a sufficient intro. Good to be here. Now, back to your regularly scheduled shenanigans.

The best part about the community is everyone sharing their modeling painting .
as well as figuring out the gray area rules . It really helps raise the over all knowledge

Good call. I hadn't been to the Background section, yet. Plenty of good stuff. Still haven't decided on a SM chapter. Tossing around a few ideas, including creating my own. So much good stuff, it's hard to choose! Having the same problem with the Orks. Do I want to convert my own warboss and start a whole new WAAAGH? Maybe. Have to wait and see.
I also got a little bit ahead of myself. I don't have paints yet (aside from some cheapo craft paint I inherited from my mother's days of industrious unemployment. They're cheap, low pigment, and rather old and globby - the kind you'd use for terrain, but wouldn't trust slathering on your models) and the camera is with my girlfriend in Russia for a few more weeks, yet. I promise, though, once I have use of it again, you'll start seeing some "how can I do this better?" threads from me. I've made a few pieces of starter terrain out of cardboard, packing styrofoam, and the like (once the hobby bites, it doesn't wait for plasticard, hot-wire foam cutters and all that fancy stuff the financially enviable enjoy) and I'm scratchbuilding a Thunderfire Cannon, at the moment, and I'd love C&C. All in due time, I guess.
Well, after that addendum, I think I've REALLY sufficiently introduced myself. Thanks for the warm welcome go out to all who posted. As do my apologies to any and all who read my future posts. I like to use words, for the most part, and I don't mind using plenty of them. My little way of flipping the bird to the internet, I guess.
