Well... Hello people of Dakka Dakka. You may or may not have seen me before as I have posted on a few other sites here and there. I, like many others, finally decided to make a home here at Dakka Dakka.

For all you guys who've played at the Tallahassee store novelly named 'Comics'- this is a shout out to you.

Gamewise-- I am a Salamander and a Necron player. I only started playing in early 2008 and began a proud tradition of getting my rear stomped by chaos, orcs, and Tyranids as I slowly worked my way through the codex and rule book absorbing the factors of war and learning how to plan, place, and maneuver in regards to terrain. After learning the futility of ground marines and devastator squads, becoming familiar with drop pods and Gun-dreads ( TL-LC, TL-AC) as well as sternguards, failing with assault against an avalanche of orcs, and getting over the OMG-Land Raiders -are te beztest stage... I learned the value of an army with twin-link, and just how much 3 vindicators can utterly ruin every army's day. Combined with the boon of a guy coming in and selling me 3 attack bikes and 2 skimmers for all of 15 dollars, I had a Salamander army.

Later, after getting more experience with deployment, Ironclads, and my beloved sisters of battle I had MY Salamanders army.

To date, since completion of my build I have a record of 30-2-0 in regular games. My first tournament experience resulted in 2 minor victories and a loss. My second was 3-0 with me winning.

I have to admit, that a 2k pt. tournament limited to 2hrs with some wacky new rules the store just made up for fun , a veritable ocean of terrain sprayed over the field, objectives vomited all over the field in numbers where I was lucky if there were ONLY 5, and reworked rules for everything concerning movement rules and proximity to claiming objectives definitely threw me for a loop. A lot of the army builds also baffled me at the tournament.... until I figured out quickly that troop spamming and taking turns as slow as possible lead to wins. Of course, I was also shocked by the fact that (having been told there was no need to paint ALL my models to participate) there was a massive point buff (equivalent to to massacre victories) for those who had completey painted armies. Needless to say, under such conditions starting at deadlast and moving to 1/2 way made me happy.

I have to say though, that the experience in general made me very tournament wary. I kind of prefer playing 40k you know... not tournament K. The good news is that the last tournament I played at my home store was actually like a normal gaming tournament... players actually squared off against each other in the regular game! Plus, the manager had the 2000 games timed to 2.5 hours so there was plenty of time to actually play the dog gone game. No time wasted in trying to figure out new obscure rules or play forms so deployment went like a jiff and most everyone finished in time.

To be fair though, I've looked at the 'ard boyz rules set up and it seems mostly balanced and about as close to the real, regular 40k (with a little creative spice) as you can get so I would bet deployment doesn't eat 20-25 minutes of gameplay and with 2.5 hrs most people can get in AT LEAST 4 turns . With this in mind, I might just hit up some 'ard boyz format tournaments...
...
...
and shank anyone who clock watches to stall.

But seriously, it sounds good. BTW, I do play Necron. For everyone who says necron are easy to play... go eat a crow. It's bad enough being a troop in 5th ed at a minimal 180pts... like we needed the standing execution order that is phase out. Monoliths are all fine and well too, but ending being angry wallflowers more necessary for emergency troop evacs than most other things. Heavy destroyers and destroyers are of course, also very cool... but wraiths and tomb spyders.... really? REALLY? Come on... maybe in flying circus but they're basically neutered durable/fast gene stealers and a slowed Carnifex...
...
...Like by Ogryn standards.

.. yeah that bad.

Anyway, if anyone EVER bothers to read this far I guess you know about as much about me as you could never care to. Lol

I'm honestly shocked anyone even reads through the introductions here, but it's nice to know you guys really are trying to build a sense of community.

As for setting things on fire.... oh yeah fun times. I played this one IG guy at our store and he had basically stomped everyone with a massive ground force of troopers, veterans, etc supported by the crap-ranged artillery (min. distance) and a Leman Russ Squad (x2) as well as a vendetta. Ideally, he would go first and vaporize 1/2-3/4 of the enemy army. In our conflict we played seize ground with Dawn of War and I got to go first. I pushed my troops (at 2000 a Rhino packed w/ 10 Marines and melta goodness (+a combi-flamer), and a another rhino with 5 guys and similar gear setup sans the Hvy weapon) to the 24" as he deployed in the rear 6" with his "2 Troops". Turn one I dropped my Vulkan annihilation pod (under his minimal artillery range) and an Iron clad nearby for support as I pushed my rhinos 12", rotated, deployed at the 2" line. Needless to say, add up 2 TL-Heavy Flamers, 4 TL-Flamers, some melta smattering, and the missiles from the pods and it went from 120-40 guardsmen to 32. Yummm, you've gotta love the bunched guardsmen for barbeques.

Also, quit complaining abotu necrons.
Necron tactics are easy.
1) Move
2) Shoot
3) Rinse and Repeat

And don't worry about the enemy shooting back. Becuase they are either
a) crap at it
OR
b) crap at melee and ur getting closer

*angry face*

Oh you went there...

Necron tactics eh? Well I can most certainly tell you it is not as simple "move, shoot, rinse and repeat".

Melee concerns, battle-cannonesque weaponry, etc. make movement decisions ridiculously important and UNLIKE everyone else, Necron have no transport whatsoever other than the Necron Lord teleport which is also likely to leave you open in battle cannon-class country. I suppose the Monolith does also count as a type of movement due to its transporter beam, but realistically isn't feasible most of the time.

With 5th being what it is, mobility issues are a critical concern-- so Necron are basically left with 'Flying Circus' as a semi-competitive build.

In that narrow definition, then yes they are limited to hubbing up around a destroyer lord/s w/ Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers mowing everything down whilst keep the 2 (360 pts combined!! #@$@#) troops in reserve.

However, if you're not spamming those... it get real hard, real quick.

...*sigh*
I cannot believe one would complain about the unkilliableness monolith.
Sure, it's slow.
Sure, it's not the BEST shooter.
But it JUST WON'T DIE!!!

Hmmmmm, fascinating.

BTW, Monolith meets 5th ed deepstrike= so many tests it NEVER had to make before.

within 1" =ignores 1,2..... 3456 punch it in the face.
on top of= eats 1-6

Deepstrike rules->within 1" is not 'on top of' until they release some dog gone errata.

Nice intro- I voted for tau since I play tau... although I have had some success in assault with crisis/stealth suits!

I'm playing in my first tournament tomorrow! Hopefully I won't encounter the type of players you describe... I'll let you know
