Subject: When did the traitor legions change livery?

No new background/fluff to bring this forum, but i have a question.
As the title suggests, how far into the heresy did the traitor legions change the livery. I know the luna wolves/sons of horus changed with the name change, but what of the rest.
Why im asking is im putting the finishing touches to a Daemons army. For my Daemon Prince i wanted something different so i thought of painting him up in the old style world eaters livery(white and blue). But the miniature has the whole spikey pokey armour of CSMs, so wondered if the livery would have changed with the armour change.
Any ideas?

I think it changed after the Heresy. I'm not quite sure though, as some Legions kept the same colour scheme. IIRC, that was Word Bearers, Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion. The Death Guard's armour changed when they became Plague Marines, because their armour is covered in disease and mould. Emperor's Children used to have purple armour I think judging by pictures of them in the Horus Heresy artbooks, and they didn't change until afterwards. World Eaters, I'm not sure about. Thousand Sons changed after the Rubric was cast, but I don't know why. Probably because blue is Tzeentch's colour, and the Rubric was the ultimate 'Just As Planned' moment.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Hmm, might be able to pull off the Old world eaters livery then. It'll be different anyway from all the black/red versions i've seen.
Fluff wise then, he could have theoritically being promoted to DP before the end of the heresy, hence the old style armour colour.

Not sure either. Although you could just say that your Daemon Prince stuck with his original colours to remind loyalist chapters of the pain/hatred caused in that time. (Not that they need reminding)

Alpha legion pre-heresy was a much brighter blue and green. Word Bearers were all silver with lettering like grey knights are now. Iron warriors stayed pretty much exactly the same. Never heard that bit about the rubric -> blue before.

Well, I'm not totally sure about that, but I think it might have been brought about to fit in with the Egyptian theme they adapted. When the Rubric of Ahriman was cast, all the normal Marines henceforth wore those odd headpieces, reminiscent of Tutankhamen. The colours on his deathmask were blue and gold, so the post-Heresy colour scheme and appearance could be a reminder that all the Rubric Marines are 'entombed' inside their armour, reduced to dust.

Some fluff suggests that the World Eaters never changed their colours, that the red is just a layer of dried blood caked to their armor...

The Word Bearers switched to their current armor at the outbreak of the heresy. In Battle for the Abyss they have just been issued with their crimson plate.

That's what I thought, because in the Visions of Darkness art book, there's a picture of Erebus and his bodyguards wearing crimson armour.

Have you read the horus heresy artbook? The 1ksons were always egyptiany. They had scarabs instead of imperial eagles, and big tomb king type glaives.

I have only read Visions of Darkness, which doesn't have that many pictures of the Thousand Sons. It had a lot more of the Word Bearers and Luna Wolves.

I think fluff mentions that thier armour is warped and twisted during their stay in the warp.
