A friend of mine is rushing to get a bigger IG army for an apoc tournament next month.
He's getting a baneblade and wants some advice on whether to go "as is", take the extra sponsons, or get the av 14 upgrade?

What do you guys use?

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

standard baneblade is still the best one, IMO.

its like a 10" diameter AOE lascannon, with a 72" range.... sure it doesn't ignore cover or anything, but the ones that do are too short ranged...

The only upgrade I use on my baneblades is 2 other baneblades. MMMMMM super heavy company.

but if hes not up for buying 3 id just go with the vanilla no upgrades or changes, x3 twin lined heavy bolters is almost a must, x2 lascannons yes please, and that godly battlecannon is not to be passed up for that somewhat less good other gun.

Also I'm guessing the Fortress of Arrogance is certainly not worth the points and price?

Basic Baneblade for the win. Always.
Expect if you buy the new package, then you have choice of building other as nice things. Stormlord is nice, but Baneblade is best.

Stormlord, has large troop capacity and acts as a mobile bunker.

Yes read your apoc book. they count as 2 models like termies.

On an interesting side note they can carry 4 carnifex which can disembark and assault from it and ive seen people put dreads in the back but im not sure if that one is legal, I know some super heavies can carry them but not sure about the stormlord.

My personal favourite way I've seen em used is putting 5 HB devie squads in the back and 2 sets of extra sponsons with heavy bolters.

total of 20 regular heavy bolters, and 7 twin linked heavy bolters plus the vulkan mega bolter.

Wow.......I only have 1 baneblade and 1 shadowsord/banesword

Yea i run a basic baneblade its really nice... the huge blast helps like you have no idea. I also like the Titan-Hunter version.. with the strength D weapon, although its not the best option it's my personal favorite.

If I were to do it again I wouldent have bought all those I would have stuck with only the 3 baneblades. Rolling 7 super heavies is like having an I win button.

Last game I ran all those I had 6 10" templates ranging from str 9 to 10. and 3 5" D str templates for tank sniping. turn one I killed about 6000 points, turn 2 I killled about 3000 points, turn 3 about 4000, and then I won by wipeout.

It was a 20000 point game, and in 3 turns I had killed over 13000 points with 6 tanks and a titan totaling 3750 points. The other 7000 with the rest of my force.

I have just one Shadowsword. It's a real reach out and touch some weapon. Course last time I used it that person was me- apocalyptic explosion and rolled 6's for distance. It wiped out my army in style!

I prefer Sisters of Battle Retributor squads with that Apoc Sister's ability that gives them Relentless. Lots of move and shoot MM and HB...
