Prologue
The nightmare vision wracked Dante's sleeping form. The implacable leader of the Blood Angels rolled over hugging his pillow and gnashing his teeth. The great unclean one gurgled and laughed in his nightmare. "I will rip out your private parts like seeds from a cucumber." Dante screamed and awoke. "To battle my brothers!" he shouted.

Mission: seize ground, 5 objectives. deployment: spearhead.

Ork List: Big Mek/KFF, Warboss, Nob Squad of Death in BW, x3 squads of Boyz in BWs, 2 Deff Koptas
Blood Angels: Dante, Corbulo (in LR), Death Company (x5), Assault Squad, Tactical squad/rhino, Tactical squad/rhino, LR+5 terminators, x3 marine bikes

The orks won the roll and deployed first. They choose the table quarter that gave them easy access to three objectives. After contemplating a full reserve deployment Dante's marines decided they would meet the challenge head on. The LR deployed to meet the orks backed up by the Death Company, Dante's squad, and the bike. The two tactical squads were placed in reserve.

The deff koptas scout moved to get eyes on the marine bikes.

TURN 1

Orks

All the ork wagons powered ahead 13", the deff rollas easily crushing through the remnants of an imperial structure.

The deff koptas blasted the marine bikes with twin-linked rokkits and managed to kill one to death.

Blood Angels

Dante's squad and the Death Company moved up to engage the ork wagons.

The Land Raider, marine bikes, and Dante all fired on the wagons. The Big Mek's KFF absorbed the worst of the damage. In the assault phase the Death Company wrecked the Big Mek's wagon and Dante's squad wrecked a second battle wagon.

The boyz disembarked from the wagons and prepared to get stuck in.

TURN 2

ORKS

Angus the warboss considered his options. Should he deploy the boarding plank and attack the Land Raider since it didn't move the previous turn or should he order a deff rolla attack on the assault marines and assault? He decided to deff rolla the marines.

The Death Company easily avoided the battle wagon's clumsy attack. Dante's assault squad was not so fortunate. As the Deff Rolla bearing Wagon approached Dante cried out, "Hold marines! Hold! Hoooold!" Angus the Warboss gritted his brown teef and screamed "Crush them!!!" Suddenly Dante screamed--it was his nightmare vision! The great unclean one had appeared behind the ork warboss. Drool and ichor oozed from its lips.

Dante opened his command channel and wailed, "LEG IT!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! SAVE YOUR PROGENOIDS!"

Dante's squad rolled an 11 failing his moral test. Then rolling 3d6 he totals 13" and flees off the table edge.

In the assault phase an embarked nob used his boarding plank to attack the LR and stunned it. The Big Mek's boyz hit the Death Company and trade about 8 boyz for 2 Death Company.

Blood Angels

Demonstrating the true mettle of the Astartes the marines decide to fight on without their commander. Both tactical squads and rhinos arrive from reserves. The nob wagon is wrecked as a result of Marine shooting. In addition, one deff kopta is blown to bits and the second one suffers a wound but stayed in the air. The terminators have left the LR and assaulted the nob squad. Three of the terminies have lightening claws and two have thunder hammers. When the dust settled from the assault one nob is dead and three others are wounded. Likewise, Angus the warboss has suffered a wound but still stands. Two terminators were killed by the nobs and the combatants remain engaged in melee.

TURN 3

Orks

The deff kopta fired its rokkits at a rhino to no avail. There was no other shooting and we moved into the assault phase. The death company trade one of their number for three or four orks and those two groups remain engaged. A unit of boyz joins the Nob/Terminator assault with devastating results--the terminators are eliminated at the cost of half a dozen or so boyz.

The remaining kopta deployed its buzzsaw and exploded a rhino.

Blood Angels

The remaining marines managed to wreck the last functional battlewagon. The remaining rhino used it over-charged engine to speed towards an open objective in a quiet corner of the battlefield. The remaining Death Company succumbed to the orks in the assault phase. The Big Mek and his remaining boyz consolidated towards an objective

TURN 4

Orks
A squad of ork boyz moved to attack the tactical squad that was in the open. The Warboss and his boyz assaulted the LR and destroyed two of its weapons.

Blood Angels
The tactical squad in the last remaining rhino disembarked and secured an objective. The other tactical squad fired on and assault a squad of boyz. Inside the LR Corbulo wondered what all the banging was.

TURN 5

With over a dozen powerklaw attacks the Orks managed to wreck the Land Raider. Corbula evacuated on the side opposite of the Nobz. The engaged tactical squad fell to the hammer blows of the ork boyz. On the Blood Angel's turn Corbula moved over to contest an objective.

The game continued to turn 6 which saw the Nobz chase down and slay Corbulo

The game concluded with the orks in control of 4 objectives and the marines in control of one objective.

Concluding tactical thoughts: What can you say besides it sucks to lose Dante and a full assault company at the top of T2 to a failed morale roll.

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.

That was some HORRID luck back there with having dante run off the table, but a neat battle report

I notice you fought the same pink orks as last time.

Thanks for the report. I am working on an Ork army like that - but mine will probably not be quite so...ummm... pink.

Last time I fought BA (with Battlewagons) Dante & friends rolled a 12 and fled off the table also. Perhaps Dante has issues.

(cute ba-by!)
