Paris.Hilton.

..in fairness she has worked flatonherback out hard at times I guess.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Yeah, if you stay away from the urge to get rich quick, or your American dream may end up in an off-shore bank account.

I think it has something to do with sufficient prize support? So it must be a table.

Well, I'm just wondering what it is? For the longest time I've thought that it was a nice house with a double garage and white fence, a lovely better half and two kids, maybe a family pet, but the old dreams and values are gone now.

So what's the dream these days? "Making money, live in mansion and big fake American titty!" Or something else?

Definitely still there; all about getting the $$$ when you don't have any.

For example I got a Chinese friend whose dad and other family members 'escaped' communist China where they ended up starting a successful chain of buffet restaurants here (about 4 or so). As I grew up with him I saw them "moving on up" like The Jeffersons and now they're in a pretty damn nice neighborhood with more cars than there are people living in the house.

On the flipside my mom's friends' family moved here from Korea looking to start up a business but are now struggling. However they haven't been in the USA anywhere near as long as the previously mentioned.

In this gakky economy, dreams will hit the hard facts of reality however when companies and people are doing 'bad' it does offer opportunities to capitalize.

It came true...you're looking at it.

My parents didnt have alot of cash, so I joined the marines did my 4 years got out went to college on the GI bill and got a job....

Started a second job while working full time, now I have a nice sized house 1900 sq ft, with another 1700 sq ft in the basement. My own little Acre of land to play in, my kids go to a good school.

And most importantly the only debt I carry is my house fixed rate at 4.2% and the wife's car (mines a company car).

The opportunities are there if your not afraid of hard work..or lazy.

Most of the posters above has it right.

The American Dream is that you have all the opportunities that you are willing to work for. Although I have to say some luck is also involved.

Money is too often a metaphor for freedom.

The dream? To make enough money to be free from the everyday stress of simply getting by.

To live within that system is to be a slave to it. Almost no one will be 'rich' enough to truly feel free. Most will simply chase their tails.

Therefor freedom must be found within the minutia of our own desires. Despite this, money still helps this pursuit in the modern world.

In Frazz's case, recapturing Asia Minor and Major.
Others? Simply finding a place that feels like home.

Or, get off the grid completely.
