Okay so me and a friend are starting a tau vs Eldar campaign soon and we agreed we could each come up wiht one speical character unit for the campaings final battle ( which is gonna be a 6000 point appocolypse battle) Here is the Unit I created for hte batttle I am asking for advice to see if it is too overpowered or too expensive points wise.

Formation Name: Ta’ lek High Shas’O Sune’ Key Points 300

Fluff: Shas’O Sune’ Key was once a highly skilled Shas’ O Commander of the Tau Fire caste during the second expansion. As he was reaching the age to retire from main stream combat he proposed to the Etherals the formation of a Deep Space exploration sept that would scout the galaxy for new sept worlds of the empire. The etherals agreed with the plan and made Sune’ Key the commander of the sept that was dubbed Ta’ lek. Sune’ Key formed a fire caste of vast numbers includeing several Shas’ el and Shas’ O commanders. They set out in the sept’s mother ship Tailima. Sune’ Key and his highly skilled bodyguards who are refered to as the Knights of Ta’ lek, only appear on the battlefield during key battles and are usually the turning tide that puts the battle in the septs favor. Sune’ Key wears a limited production XV83 Commander battlesuit with experimental weapons made by the Earth Caste engineers aboard his ship.

Why the close combat (WS 5 on tau )
Make the Plasma Repeater and Burst Gatler 18" as the ranges go up in sixes.
The Knights wouldn't have 3 wounds
Having 3 weapons on Sune'Key is pointless
Lose Fleet and price of failure
Lose the lances
You could give them XV81/89 suits if you wanted them to be more survivable/fill in a lack of something in your army but this formation wouldn't be seen outside of 10K a side plus. To many points, to big a footprint, go against tau psychology but sure would be fun to use. With current rules Sune would be around 320-350 and the Knights would be around 250 each (including the Drones here)

Also don't get put of. Do playtesting with your freinds and if you have a reason for them being good in close combat post it up but otherwise you'll get heavilly critisised due to the breach in tau psycology. (who knows they might be mentally impaired)

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

Well, giving the unit 'Fleet' seems to imply that he has some intention of using this as an assault-oriented unit. He will need to use fluff to back this up though!

They don't have to.

O'shovah wrote:The Knights wouldn't have 3 wounds

Why not? This being his characters, he can put on 3 wounds if he so pleases. Doesn't seem too out-of-line to me.

O'shovah wrote:Having 3 weapons on Sune'Key is pointless

Not really. Although he may only be able to fire 1 or 2, giving a character options never hurts.

O'shovah wrote:Lose Fleet and price of failure

Price of Failure makes more sense for an Ethereal, but perhaps if he is a particularly beloved Commander...
Fleet, keep or toss, depending on how assault-oriented you want him to be able to be.

I completely disagree. 250 points a piece for the listed Knights?? Not at all.

As far as comments on psychology go, the Tau arm their forces for the task at hand. If the "task at hand" required a force such as the Original Poster has described, then the force listed would be in a 6,000 point army!

Shas'O Tash'var Vera Fali'shir Aun'Ki
Cost: 175 pt

WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
5 5 4 4 4 4 3 10 3+

Special character: O'Vera is a special character. He may be used in any tau army wich does not include Aun'va or commander shadowsun. You may not choose any additional equipment from the armoury.

Equipment: XV8 Crisis battlesuit, multi tracker, plasma rifle, cyclic ion blaster, shield generator & bonding knife.

Special rules:
Clever cowards: O'Vera's forces are renowned for laying well prepared ambushes for their enemies, and then vanishing, as soon as their victims comes to close. Any unit in an army led by O'Vera may break off any time they lose an assault phase, regardless of their morale roll. Crisis suit teams in an army led by O'Vera rolls a D6+6 when determining their break of distance.

Hardened Veterans: Many of O'Vera's followers have been there since his break with the greater good, and are by far more skilled in close, as well as ranged combat, than their loyalist counterparts. Any model in an army led by O'Vera may upgrade their WS,BS,I or T by 1 to a maximum of 5, for two points Pr. model. If one model in the unit does so, then all models in that unit must be similarly upgraded. Any models in a Crisis team, may always be upgraded to the rank of Shas'Vre, and thereby gain all the benefits of such for an additional 10 points per model.

Breakaway faction: O'Vera and his followers has fled to the Farsight enclaves, and now visualise Commander Farsight as their leader, rather than the Ethereals. As such, the Forces that may be included in an army led by O'Vera have been limited to better represent this: No Ethereal, Kroot or Vespid may be included in an army, led by O'Vera.

Independent Character: unless accompanied by a bodyguard, O'Vera is an independent character, and follows the independent Characters special rules. If accompanied by drones, he may still join other units.

Note that this profile is “so called” home rules, which means that it has no relations to official games workshop products or rules, and may only be used if your opponent gives you his full acceptance.

The real reason Obi-wan said there was a "disturbance in the force" was that was the very moment Shas'o vera was born. it was so awsome and terrible it could be felt through time and across the dimensions.
