hey Dakka...

this is the third mini i've painted for Dragonblood, and it's a wonderful little resin sculpt...

i think this is the first lizard i've ever painted...

first the link, and the pics, and then i'll talk a little about the painting on this guy...

if you just like pretty pictures:

o.k., so...
i was told to paint this guy to look like the phoenix that i painted with the Priestess mini...
this meant a nice bright, hot, fire scheme...

this is the first time that i've undercoated a mini white in years...
i can't even remember the last mini that didn't start from black...
this is also a pure reverse of how we normally paint minis...
the deepest parts of the lizard are white hot, and the highest edges are darkest...
quite a sudden switch in style...

i'm not a big fan of workin' with yellow and orange, but the P3 paints cover so well, it was a breeze...
of course i almost went crazy painting each individual scale, but it was well worth it in the end...
a quick drybrush would have looked way too shabby...

the rocks that he's climbin' onto were my first little experiment with the GW washes...
they are based with P3 Trollblood Highlight ( a funky mid-grey), and then washed with green and purple in splotches...
first hit in spots with the purple, and then slathered in green...
then i hit it with a little light from the lava (my second OSL attempt), and BAM...

All hail the Lava Lizard!!!

thanks for lookin'...

cheers

How does that scale up, to say.. a space marine? i think it would be a really cool objective marker for salamanders. The paintjob looks great and i like the revers-o style of the painting. gj

Digging the painting, but hating the model itself. Reminds of the very early citadel dragons; stubby blocks of metal. Yick!
