Hi all,

I've recently had a revival of my interest in 40k modeling and painting, and have been teaching myself how to use green stuff and do some more advanced modeling. I managed to get an assembled and primed AoBR dread in a good swap, and wanted to make it look a bit more dynamic, so got into re-posing it. This was a bit more difficult than I thought it might be, because of the nature of the hips and knees of the dread, so I had to get a bit creative with the razor saw and dismember the unfortunate thing! Eventually came up with a stance that worked, positioned the feet appropriately and re attached some toes to fit the terrain base.

I used milliput to do the basic structural sculpting, and am in the process of putting the GS over to add detail. The detail is just concertina style, since i'm a complete GS noob, then I cut up an old pair of headphones and added some cables to fill the gap between melta arm and body. I also changed the storm bolter for a flamer using a standard marine flamer.

I now need a dread sized base to finish this project (donations welcome!), not sure what colours to paint in. White panthers is my chapter, but I was thinking maybe go crazy and do an ordos xenos dread.

C&C welcome. Excuse the filesize. Thanks

Nice chop shop work there! I'm trying to do the same thing to a 2nd ed metal wraithlord.... god how I wish they were plastics!

I think I have a base to hook you up with. PM me if you're interested.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

That is some awesome repositioning of a dread! I just finished a dread conversion myself.

Thanks very much for the kind comments guys! It's great as a beginner to get encouragement like that.

Anyone have thoughts on an ordos xenos dread?

Very nice; but I can't help but shake the feeling that it'd fall over IRL :-/

Thanks. I agree about the falling over, so i'm going to build up the base below his left foot, hopefully that'll help. It's a bit of a compromie though, trying to get a dynamic pose out of such a ponderous machine

okay, dumb question time... what do you use to cut the original model before applying the green stuff?

No such thing.

I used a modeler's razor saw, and a scalpel

thanks, I'll look into snagging a modeler's razor saw... might help me along with the HT that I'm puttying up.

very useful little tool, not expensive either. Never used it on metal though (is a tyrant plastic?) but I think it'd be fine.

Just gave the dread and base a spray down with tamiya white primer, and got myself a set of citadel washes underpriced (stoopid redshirts), so might get some paint on it tonight

For an Ordo Xenos dread I'd think about Inquisitorial symbols. Also, you could put some 'trophies' on it, like Eldar helms or ork skulls or some such.
