I am, of course, referring to the man who illustrated much of Slaves to Darkness and other Warhammer goodies! In my opinion he's much better than practically any GW artist today.
It's pretty obvious that he no longer works at GW, perhaps he passed away? :(

He did this, for example:

If anyone knows what happened to him and if he has a website (I have used my google-fu powers to no avail) that would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Vlad

He was devoured by flying horned baboons.

He did some illustrations for WFRP book Plundered Vaults back in '05, that's the latest date I could find.

*edit He also seemed to leave GW that year since GeeDubs issued a request that year asking artists who had left to collect their originals and his name was at the top of the list.

**edit After some more digging he is alive as of 2008, he's a member of the Newark Irregulars wargaming group. http://www.partizan.org.uk/

***edit Found his facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1189685775&hiq=tony%2Cackland&ref=search

Very interesting, thank you very much!

I'm happy to hear that he is still alive (as far as we know) but it's said to hear that he left Geedbubya. I mean, I was pretty sure that he left but this finalizes it.

Oh well.

Again, thank you for your help!

Curious, last i heard of him he was living in Penzance in Cornwall with the guys from Black Tree who I used to roleplay with. Guess he upped sticks when they left for Ameriky a couple of years back.

The question now is.. Does Tony Ackland know Dakka is stalking him?

Hilarious but a good point... is having a link to his facebook page in this thread a little TMI?

It is tmi, but I have sent an email to the mutual friend of Mr Ackland and myself asking him to let Mr Ackland know dakka was asking after him.

But I would suggest allowing the guy his personal space.

Well of course I didn't mean to intrude on his personal space or anything, I was just curious if he was still up and about.

I'm glad to hear that he still is!

Vlad, have just spoken with him, he is still down Cornwall way and doing well.

Thank you MGS!

Was he surprised to hear that a random kid was wondering how he was doing?

Again though, glad to hear that he's doing well!

I think he was bemused someone thought he'd passed away.

Very quiet and unassuming bloke.

Do you know if he does sketches for fans? I know a lot of comic artists will do sketches by mail for a fee, but how about Tony?

I have absolutely no idea, but I can ask if someone was seriously interested.

IMNSHO, Tony is the best of the old school GW artists and I for one would be very interested in his future professional works.

Oh, and anything posted on a Facebook page that is open to the public is not personal space and it is foolish to think otherwise.

I was about to say. What's the point of a facebook otherwise?

I would love to get a sketch from him!

And I didn't mean to say that I thought he passed away, but I was just wondering as a lot can happen in 20 something years.

An eBay store I often buy from has original Tony Ackland artwork from the "Slaves to Darkness" and the "Lost and the Damned" books.

A bit pricey, but you'd be owning a piece of RPG/Wargaming history.

(My favorite artist from that era was Ian Miller. I loved the stuff he did for WH40K especially.)

Ian Miller seems to have quietly pushed his GW era under the carpet, at least judging from his website blog.

He was superb, however, and puts all current 'artists' they employ to shame (Blanche excepted).
