Statistically speaking the bloodthirster will gain attacks from dark insanity more often than he will loose them. The bloodthirster has a base attack characteristic of 7. At
2D6+2 attacks, the lowest result you can get is 4 (two ones +2), while a 5 on two dice is the break even point.
If you look at all the possible combinations of results on two dice:
There is one way to make two and twelve.
There are two ways to make the three and eleven.
There are three ways to make the four and ten.
There are four ways to make the five and nine.
There are five ways to make the six and eight.
There are six ways to make the seven.
This means that out of every 36 rolls, dark insanity statistically will result is less than 7 attacks 6 times.
This means that out of every 36 rolls, dark insanity statistically will result in exactly 7 attacks 4 times.
This means that out of every 36 rolls, dark insanity statistically will result in more than 7 attacks 26 times.
In other words, you will roll higher than the bloodthirster's base number of attacks 26/36 or 72% of the time (or approximately 3 of every 4 rolls).
Dark insanity is worth the points, statistically speaking.
