ok me and a friend were playing a match (tau vs SM), my rhino carring my chapter master got popped and he was left sitting in the crater (not pinned), next turn i decided i would stand the in the movement phase, shoot his kroot (with a Storm bolter) in the shooting phase, then assault out of the crater in the assault phase (thus triggering a difficult terrain test), because im kinda new to the game and he has been playng for years, he mistakenly used the old frag rules (both attack at the same time, and i just assumed he was correct) meaning my CM with a powerfist went at the same time as like 15 kroot, killing 3 and losing 2 wounds, he then cut them down as they fled.

but the arguement that came upwasn't that we used the wrong rule (cos i still would have killed them) it was that i shouldn't be allowed to use frag grenades when assaulting him in open ground, even though i had run through difficult terrrain, his arguement being its supposed to drive him deeper onto cover mine being even out of cover it would serve as a distraction if nothing else. and he won't let up about it so i just kinda wanted afew opinions from outside our group (theres 3 of us and hes the only one who disagrees with my use of the rule).

do you get to use frags when taking a difficult terrain test in the assault phase, or is it specifically when you target is in area terain or behind cover.

You strike at initiative 1 for the powerfist. He strikes at initiative.

Assaulting through cover is defined on p36. If they do a difficult terrain test, they're assaulting through cover. The fluff makes no difference.

Ridcully said it all.

In addition read the powerfist description on page 42 of the BRB. You can't get rid of I1 if using this weapon.

yeah i know about the powerfists always I1, but he was saying it was both strike at I1, and we both realised this wasn't right afterwards, the point im trying to clarify is when you assault you can throw grenades (to make everyone attack at their basic I value) if you are forced to take a Difficult terrain test in the process of assaulting

You can use grenades if the charge movement takes you through difficult terrain.

If you want to play by the old frag rules, they cause both parties to attack at I10. The powerfist still overrides this and decreases your initiative to 1.

Protip: You can't play by the old frag rules, because we have new ones.

Iron_Chaos_Brute is Correct. If you want to use the old Frag rules, I want to use the old Rules that let me Rhino Rush again

You can still play a somewhat reasonable facsimile to that list but with cover saves being what they are now it just wouldn't be the same.
