Oklahoma City, Ok.

hey all,
just as the title says really. and to be clear, i'm talking about the ones that go in squads, not vehicle mounted. it's hard for me the justify the points considering you can get 3 flamers for The same price. which really sucks because i actually like the model.
any thoughts?
thanks!

hhahahaha the guard 'eads will still make the same noise they always do when da boyz stomp 'em..... but seriously, take the 3 smaller flamers. though potent, if the oumie with da ubar flama falls to da foe, then that skwad has lost alot of power; a lot of flamey powa. spread out da burnaz... trust me

I´d like to second the opinion of my esteemed Ork colleague. Yes, ditch the Heavy Flamer and take normal Flamers instead ( or other special weapons ) with those points. Combining several flamers in a Veteran Squad/Command Squad makes for a brutal counterattack unit. More hits = more wounds.

I experimented with heavy flamers in squads a bit but found the option too expensive. Partly because most of the squads that can have a heavy flamer are BS4 so the heavy flamer is both expensive and wasting the expensive 3+ to hit on that model.

Massed regular flamers are great, of course. Just try not to waste BS4 by giving vets, CCS members, etc a template weapon - unless you've got some really good reason.

I concur on the template+ BS4 argument on a general level. But sometimes you have a reason for that route. The type of the battle ( in a city fight you generally want as many flamers as possible ), the enemy you are facing ( horde list of Orks or Nids ) or composition of your own army ( all Veteran IG ).

I personally like to take a single heavy flamer with a pair of other special weapons (meltas work nicely) in my veterans, as a sort of backup. Either that or I throw it in the bs 3 platoon command squad with some regular flamers.

regular flamers mostly...as I play a hybrid list so my chimeras mostly have HF..but in a majority infantry list I would consider it for units who can field it...
