Since the Army isn't getting an update anytime soon, I thought I'd throw some love to the DE in BFG. The local group is setting up 1k pt games lately and I'm trying to play a different army from others. I've played Chaos, Imperial, SM, and Crons.

I've played BFG a few times on and off, and found the DE have the "least" amount of options.

What I've looked at buying/building would be:

2 - Torture Cruisers w/Impalers, batteries, and mimics
6 - Corsairs w/phantom Lances & batteries
And the mandatory Archon w/2 re-rolls.

Question: Is this the right gear for the job?

I'd give one of the cruisers launch bays, just so you have some interceptor support. Impalers are kinda one-trick ponies.

Just seems those races with boarding actions have a huge advantage in BFG (if you can get there) and since most of the DE weapons are 30cm or less - thought 2 would give me a better chance.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Boring fleet, too few options and only two hulls.

Make up an Eldar pirate fleet and paint them in broody colours.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I realize it is boring We've got an Eldar, Imperium, SM, Chaos, and Necron fleet in the group. I was flipping through Armada and trying to find something no one was playing.

Choices were Tau/DE, and I just chose DE because it was pretty straight forward.

Tau is a 'proper' fleet as many ship types as you can expect to find. Also they are somewhat different, you will get more variety to add to the mix if you got Tau instead of Dark Eldar.

Impalers are something new granted, but its no compensation for a fleet with such a poverty of choice.

Tau on the other hand also have a plethora of special rules that make them stand out.

You can also klook at Tyranids, also they are very different and have thedark Eldar 'advantage' read: how to collapse the model provision and still have a fleet. However tyranids get this and a number of hull types too. they are a scratchbuilders fleet though, which may or may not be for you.

Of course there remain orks, the only core fleet not played in your group. Orks are somewhat restrictive, but if you get the fleet right can be very nasty. I can give you some tips on that if you like.

I missed them! We do have 2 ork players

I will run though Tau and take a look.

From what I've seen it's "restrictive" due to having to take certain ships/escorts at our point total.

No one plays them here so that may be a good option.

You are refering to the drop hook escorts. Tau do have independent escorts but at a reduced efficiency. Whether you take Orca or Dhow space or not is up to you.

Note also that Tau have two fleets available to buy, each with its own selection of models. Its best to choose one list, but you can mix up the designs to get a bigger variety of hulls. If your players allow, you might mix both actual lists into one, but that might cause 'confusion'.
