I just knocked both of these together. The Hydra was my first foray into using plasticard for vehicles (although since then, I've made a hellhound turret from scratch and one of Dave Taylor's trucks).

I used a rhino and a chimera hull. I think it turned out pretty well. (I'm going to try to make another, and when I do, I'll post intructions on how to merge the two kits.)

The Master of the Fleet is made out of spare parts from my vendetta. Rather than being a full blown admiral like the metal model seems to suggest, I just think of him as a liaison with the aircraft in the area.

It's kinda a pity that airpower (and indeed all off field support) is such a neglected part of warfare in vanilla 40k. Painted pictures to follow.

Loving the Master of the Fleet. I was planning on using the Command Sprue's greatcoat and a relatively decorative chestpiece but forget that. I like the idea of just a Forward Observer on the ground.

QFT.
Not just vanilla 40k, either. Even Apoc. suffers from mediocrity in regards to aerial combat.

At any rate, your models. LOVE the quad-cannon on the Hydra. Looks just awesome.

Really like the Master of the Fleet, the forward observer idea is great. Also nice Hydra variant using the rhino body.

All right. It's an exact copy pretty much, so it's not particularly special (I've put a bit of mesh into the front to look like the front bit of a truck since I took the pictures):

Oh, and the corel files I made of the truck templates (which can be read by a laser cutter), can be found here (kudos to bigdaddy for putting them on the internets, and to dave taylor of course for making the instructions and the .pdf templates)

All right, so I painted the Hydra.

Also, I made these bases for my Vulture and Vendetta/Valkyrie (Hurray for it being so easy to make the weapons interchangeable). The Carrier isn't fully painted yet, and the Vulture was painted quite a while ago so it is in quite a different colour scheme, so I haven't got pictures of them (unless anyone wants them). I'm still not entirely sure if the water actually looks like water or if it just looks like paint and gloss.
The Carrier:

The Vulture:

Also, what do people think is better for 50 points: A twin linked punisher gatling gun (20 shots, s5, ap-), or 4 multiple rocket pods (4 large blasts, s4, ap6)? (the vulture is bs3)

wow some neat painting mate! And i'd take the rocket pods, because of the vulture's relatively low BS..

Thanks mate.

The twin-linked aspect of the punisher really does help though. And the fact that it's s5 not s4 is also pretty useful.

Great models, i'm really liking the MoTF, i might steal your idea for mine (i've already made a MoO out tank commander and ccs bits). Neat paint jobs too, the water effect looks particularly good especially with the way the debris actually seems partialy submerged and not just floating

Once more down to the beach, dear friends, once more,
To drown our sorrows with our English beer!
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of alcohol blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.

Alright, so I've painted the Master of the Fleet. He's painted different to the ground forces in my army as the Army and the Air Force are separate.

Here he is with all my other advisors. From left to right: Primaris Psycher/Astropath/pbs overseer, Master of the Fleet, Master of the Ordinance

Also, I've painted my Valkyrie to a satisfactory standard. Now there is a reason for ensuring that our skies remain clear of hostile craft. Our own birds are counting on us to cover their asses. And by the Emperor, we WILL cover their asses. It's camouflaged from the top to look like the ground so that it can land and avoid detection by air and spacecraft, and camouflaged from the bottom to look like the sky, so that it is harder to detect when it's at high altitudes. The top is removable, and the interior is fully painted, even though I haven't taken any good pictures of it.

The front bits are removable and can be changed from being a Valkyrie to being a Vendetta (Kudos to Flinty (I think) for the great lascannon idea and the Master of the Ordinance idea)

Also, I thought I might also take some pictures of all the weapons options that I've made for both the Vulture and Valkyrie.
Rack of six hunter killer missiles (pretend one's been fired):

Lascannons:

The hunter killer missiles of the IG tank sprue are just really stupid for tank-mounted missiles. They're much too large, much too chunky, much too exposed. But they work well as Hellstrikes on aircraft. The actual hellstrikes that came with the Vulture are going to be used as Manticore missiles, when I get round to converting one.

The two sets of rocket pods I've got.

And the twin-linked punisher gatling gun.

Hope that this inspires people.

It has totally inspired me. I have a Valkyrie I have yet to finish and I have gotten some awesome ideas from this. Thanks.

Oh, Dave Taylor was the one who actually made the truck first. And then was nice enough to post templates and instructions. They're on his blog, a couple of pages back. here

By the way, does anyone know a good image hosting site apart from photobucket? The pictures lose quite a bit of their quality. I would use the Dakka galleries, but it seems a bit hard to upload a lot of photos and have them all in one place. (I seem to have about 400 photos, although not all need to be uploaded. Most will.)

Consider someone inspired! I was wondering what I would do with those extra sponson bits I have kicking around.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

If you want an army like that, you could go Elysian Drop Troops from IA3. They are more expensive if you use the actual Elysain models, but they do not have any tanks. I say again, NO TANKS. They get Valkyries as dedicated transports and Vultures for heavy support, and everyone has deep strike. I play a 100% FW elysian army (well, almost 100%, my 3 valkyries are the new plastic ones).

Though your sig seems to suggest that taking Elysians isn't the most tactically sound descion. (Though, they should work pretty well under the current rules as they are so mobile).

Also, I'm glad that people like the models. Guard does allow for some interesting models.
