I want to make a Evil Sunz army, mainly Infantry in Trukks based, and I am having trouble making a nice, bright red for all the Boyz. Does anyone have any tips?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

I dislike painting bright reds because it takes so many coats to get a smooth bright red that looks decent over a black basecoat. If you're using GW paints this has worked well for me:

Foundation Mechrite Red, thinned and applied two or three times.
Red Gore, thinned as a wash and applied two to three times. This makes a good shade for a bright red.
Blood Red, thinned and applied in two or three coats (notice a pattern?).
2:1 mix of Blood Red and Blazing Orange as a final highlight.
If your transitions don't look right you can follow this with Baal Red Wash which cleans up messy blending pretty well.

Agreed a clean bright red is annoying to paint... even when thinned down a bit the Mechrite Red shouldnt take three coats.... and it should make the following reds take less coats or at least thats what it seems to do when I use... But in all heHandofGork has a pretty nice basic way to do a bright red.

I play footslogging orkz, so I don't have time for endless highlights! What works for me is I) 2 coats of mechrite red II) a thin stripe of blood red on all the edges III) a fat wash of Baal red

Goes without saying that I water down my paints a bit, but I never understood what people meant by "milky consistency". Milk has about the same viscosity as water, so that means 100 % water, no paint!! A light dip in the jar is enough for me.

This scheme makes my orks quite bright, but I like that they stand out on the table (while still not looking like they've been cut out of a 2nd edition codex - that was too bright!).

I'll post pics tomorrow so you'll see that it doesn't end up looking like gak.

Blood red over white works well enough. Follow that up with Devlan Mud for a nice dirty red. Stupidly simple, but it's all I ever really need to do for my Orks.

Yeah, I think for the next week or two I will be finetuning this with the AOBR orks I have. I think the first thing to be tested will be the Primers, as they seem to be the primer. I think that doing white for now will work, but eventually grey will be tested too.
