Someone told me that looted wagons are different (stats that is) depending on the model taken i.e a leman russ looted wagon would work differently as a pose to a looted rhino or predator. I was under the impression the only thing changing would be the look and size of the model, not anything else. Could someone clear this up for me?

Been out of 40k for many years. Slowly painting up old models and getting back into it.

They used to be different... Orks had the option to select a range of different Imperial vehicles, and the option to loot other vehicles not on that list with their opponent's permission.

That's been replaced in the current codex with a generic 'Looted Wagon' entry.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Okay, so the male version of "Cougar" is now officially "Albatross".

It was either second or third edition where that was the case. One of my friends has the codex. Unfortunately that is not the case with the 4th ed codex. What you see in there is what you get. Granted I would love to have an ork land raider.

The greater good needs some moo.

You can still have Looted Rhinos per Imperial Armor

If you can find a copy of the old codex, looted vehicles in a friendly game can still be fun.

The rules weren't especially complicated... HS choice consisting of 1 vehicle of 50+ points or 3 of 50- points (from a list of most IG/SM tanks, must be orkified appropriately), they're reduced to BS2, you can buy them their regular armaments and any ork vehicle upgrades, and each turn they roll a D6 and on a 1 roll for breakdown (similar to don't press dat, but more options).

It was quite a nifty option, and I'm sad to see it go.
The current looted wagon version is subpar at best... I'd honestly never use one. Trukks are better transports and Battlewagons are better for everything else, even considering the cost.

Lootas also had similar looting rules, iirc.

Looted Wagon transports are handy for motorizing burnas or tankbustas when points are tight. That's about it.

You are correct and they were great fun. I had a looted Leman Russ Demolisher, Looted Landraider, Looted Basilisk, 3 looted rhinos... it was great. I hope they bring this back in the 6th Ed. ork codex, not that I have the models anymore.

Lootas are better and easier now, so that's a change for the better. True lootas shouldn't have some crazy deffgun, though; you should just have a list of guns and get to equip them as you see fit for everyone, as opposed to the limited options they used to have.

I didnt like how lootas were in the 3rd edition Ork dex. They basically could use Imperial weapons from a list. And Im sorry but Orks BS of CRAP + Imperial weapons = horrible idea IMO
