I'm planning a force to thwomp my friends marines bad enough to encourage him to collect a non MEQ army. Can people who have used the lash/plague/oblit bulid with success, and those who have beaten it, tell me how to use it well, what to watch out for, and the variations on it? (ei; defilers, termies etc)

You are going to use MEQs to convince him not to play MEQs? It sounds like you are setting him up to start a second MEQ army.

I know him pretty well, and anticipate that once he figures out that outnumbering+force modifiers can probably wollop it, he'll finally get the ork army that he's been flirting with the idea of for months.

Tell him it will get awfully boring to lash/plasmacannon all those Assault Marines and Death Companies to death game after game. I really can't see any downsides of playing the best CSM setup with one Land Raider and the always taken 9 Obliterators except he might get bored of beating all the casual gamers.

Buying, building, painting and even learning the rules to play an army takes a lot of work, let your friend play what he wants.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

In my opinion, the weak point of the list is the Lash Prince because everyone hates Lash and will see it dead quickly. Plus with all the anti-Psyker gear out there, its harder to rely on Lash to work.

How to beat it?
Str 8+ on oblits.
Small arms on DPs.
Mech up.

Force Concentrate on PM's that are kicked out of their cans..and mission objectives.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Sanctjud just about sums it up. But I'll add in some details anyways:

Low AP weapons work well against Daemon Princes, Obliterators, Rhinos, and Plague Marines alike. Likewise with Power Weapons, but it's easier (not to mention safer) for you to just shoot this army up. This is good because beside the Daemon Prince (though not really compared to other Daemon Princes) it really gives up the Chaos Space Marine strength, which is close combat power.

Target Obliterators, Daemon Princes, and then Plague Marines, in that order.
