Hi, I did a thread about animated gifs used as personal avatars:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/278383.page
This gave me the idea to put together some 360 degree rotating views of my minis as animated gifs, allowing people to properly see a model "in the round".
However, when I tried uploading an animation it didn't work. Can it be done? If it can't currently be done, would the changes be worth the time, trouble, web space etc.
I know the gif files could be kept quite small, the problem there is the trade off in image quality.

This was covered once before somewhere in this forum. To summarise, there are a lot of technical hurdles - principally the image handling code cannot cope with animated gifs without a lot of refactoring. There are also moderator issues (eg easy to make a gif which is fine for 1000 seconds, then changes to something offensive). They are also huge file sizes or low quality as gif is not a suitable format for a photograph.

If you want to have a 360 view of an image, just upload pictures of it from multiple angles. That way, people can enjoy and inspect the image in more detail at their own pace anyway.

Ok, thanks, just seeing the daemon in my avatar doing his "twirl" gave me the idea and I wondered why it wasn't working when I tried it out.
