Ok This is a reworked main list I'v been using. basically what I've done is remove an assault squad w/JP chappy and add the ass termies w/LR. also I standardized all of my predator loadouts. and dropped a lone DP ironclad.
This is an all comers list designed to be competitive, but not tournament material. thx a million advice greatly appreciated
and I'm very new to running ass terms so whats the optimal loadout as far as TH/ss and LCs are concerned?

I have had success with 3 LC's and 2 TH/SS. The only downside to this is that the LC's only get a 5+ invuln. Big thing to do is play test and see what works for you.
I think that the lascannons should be dropped from the tac squads. You have 3 predators and LR that are easily capable of popping transports.
One thing to consider is dropping a predator and trying to run 2 MM/HF land speeders.

I dont run landspeders, scouts or bikes ever.
I can drop the lascannons from my tacs but what do you suggest? I've had incredible success with all these lascannons. Kind of an alpha strike shooty list, with so much range and firepower I can severly cripple almost anything i want turn 1 and leaves me lots of options, forces people to play my game and play catch up the whole match. and im entirely mechanised its a violent combination
I was thinking maybe plasma cannons? missile launchers are just so blah and leave me wishing i had brought the lascannons

I think it looks pretty good, overall. Sure, that many lascannons could be considered overkill, but I can't really see anywhere where those points would be better spent.
My only concern is that you might be a little weak versus horde armies. You've got alot of weaons to deal with Vehicles and MEQs, but nothing with a phenomenal rate of fire, or with blast/teamplate weapons.
Make 1 Predator a full dakka Preadator, and do make some weapon modifications to your squads to get some anti-horde special weapons into your sternguard unit. Heavy Bolters and Heavy flamers would be good.

Plasma cannons would be nice, they kind of fulfill the dual role of MEQ killer and anti horde.
Missiles are definitely something to bring in bulk. One missile launcher doesn't cut it.
Any left over points could be spent on dozer blades. Some people call them a waste, but if you have my kind of luck you will be glad you had them

There is a lot of fat in this list.
Go with ml's and flamers in the tac squads. Drop the pf's. Swap cassius out for the termie chappy.
That saves 150pts.

Im not running cassius, just normal termie chappy. I can possibly live with MLs on my tacs but not the flamers I loathe flamers unless they're heavy. I mean for 20 more points i can have the las/ plas over the ML/Flamers. and las/ plas squads ANNIHILATE ML/FL squads. so for 20 more points i really save 250pts

Dakka pred is a good idea i'm going to re work something and see what I can do. but im not a big fan of heavy weps in my sternguard
Automatically Appended Next Post: I temporarily dropped 2 PFs and downgraded 2 tacs to ML/FL and i downgraded to 1 dakka pred for experimentation
Now this leaves me with 130 pts and my list feels incredibly thin now. with 130 points left over I cant even field a good dreadnought OR 2 landspeeders with effective loadout. and I lost 4 lascannons, 2 PFs, 2 plasma guns.. isnt making much sense to me

I like the list. I don't care for PF on the Sternguard Sgt, but that's a wash. I agree with the OP that sterguard without too many special weapons is a good idea. I even like 10 sternguard with 9 stormbolters
and a heavy bolter. That will make almost any horde army cringe at 24 inches. Making them a glorified flamer unit or a suicide melta unit just doesn't a) fit their point cost or b) make any sense in the fluff.
Since you're mechanized, I think against hordes you could play the turtle and rapid fire game to some effect rather than trying to change a lot about your list.

Amended list is looking good so far.
Captain, I run mine with artificer armour, relic blade and storm shield. Artificier armour is cheaper than terminator armour if I remember right and a relic blade is S6 power weapon! Nasty c.c load out and the captain is damn tough.
I would probably change those lascannons to missile launchers so you've got multiple purpose. You then can tackle hordes and still do over light armour.
Sgt in the sternguard don't need a power fist. Reason is sternguard are a shooting unit, although can hold in combat you as a player should make sure they don't get in it or else they'll get killed or tied up and cannot shine in there shooting.
As for thunder hammers and lightning claw load outs I would go for a mix. I take 3 hammers and 2 pairs of claws which do well for hordes can tackle tougher enemies and also stand around with the 3+ invulnerable saves from the storm shields.

Well i like the PF on the sterns because they tend to attract a lot of MC's and other scary units that require something heavier than a chainsword. and of course I avoid close combat with them, but nothing ever goes according to plan.

+1 for swapping Lascannons to Plasma Cannons.
You want to see something neat? Do a little squad vs. squad test match between any other Tactical squad and Plasma Cannon, Plasmagun, Plasma Pistol. Blast Plasma is a beast. Bulked up Plasma with a blast is just ugly.
Now, try that same squad against 5 Terminators w/ CML or AC. Virtually the same results. Plasma is also great for dealing with anything with Feel No Pain, since it's AP2. Got a Death Squad eating you? Plasma. Plague Marines? Plasma. SM Command Squad? Plasma. Tervigon with Catalyst? Plasma.
Just keep the business end pointed toward the enemy at all times.

lolwut?? Stormbolter on Sternguard must be the most useless upgrade in the entire codex. You take Sternguard for their special ammo and ability to use combi melta/flamers, nothing else.
Unless you have some idea of never using special characters there is no reason what so ever to not take Cassius instead of a termi chaplain. He is 5 pts cheaper and better...
I would find pts for a GoI Librarian, a rhino is not difficult to pop and when it does pop your 325pts unit will be walking. Either drop one Predator or drop the upgrades on your sergants to afford this. If you drop the Pred take another 5 combi wepons.
And take plasma cannons instead of lascannons on your tacticals, you already have more lascannons than needed.

The model itself does not become T4. Just in shooting you use the majority toughness. In CC he will be T6 as he is an IC. You shouldn't have to worry too much about the Assault termies getting shot at too much. Maybe consider some LC's to use with Litanies of Hate. Automatically Appended Next Post: As for regular chaplains, I like to just run them as is. At base cost he has a PW which is better than a captain. The chaplain is a support character, so don't expect him to do a ton of killing himself. However, litanies of hate will do A LOT of killing.

well the list is more or less finalised with the exception of 130 pts
so I could take either Cassius or a regular chaplain w/digital weapons and a plasma pistol
or I could take a chaplain in terminator armor
what do you guys think is the best?

I would go for Cassius. He can't be IK'd from double toughness. Chaplains (as well a lot of IC's) tend to draw a lot of attention in CC. This is especially true with Chaplains. They may not be the best CC fighters, but if I can kill him, I have hurt that big bad assault terminator squads re rolls on the charge.
You could take the left over pts and maybe get EA for the LR or put some dozer blades on the rhinos. It really sucks when you roll a 1 and your squads have to start walking across the board.

You might find it useful to field one of EACH of the recommended heavy weapons in your tac squads. Maybe one las, one plas, and one missile launcher? That way you have some overlap. Need to hit an armored target? Apply las and krak missile. Horde? Apply frag and plasma.
