Term, you buying to play or just for kicks / painting ?
If you buying to play then you should really look at making an army list first, other wise just go crasy in the shop/store/web

As Tauzor mentioned, if you're picking up Dark Elves for the sake of playing as opposed to pure modeling, you should start by not buying anything and making a few lists at different levels of play. Dakka has quite a few Dark Elf players so you'll generally get feedback pretty quickly from putting a Dark Elf list over at the WHFB Army Lists area.
