Recently I've been thinking about starting a second WHFB army. I would like to play somthing that is completely different from the Woodelves that I currently play with. Any suggestions?

Possibly Warriors of Chaos (who I got to differentiate to Wood Elves myself).

No skirmishers, high armour save, no shooting.

However, both have monsters, ogre-sized and fast cavalry though these aren't particularly unique to any army.

Ogre Kingdoms:

Can't get more opposite than that.

If you're thinking playing style, I think WoC probably are up there as an alternative.

Tough, armored, and essentially no shooting.

I would agree with the others. WoC and Ogres would be good fits. If you played a fast hard hitting WE, you could try dwarfs as they are definitely not fast.

Funny, WOC and Ogres have been the front runners in the armies I've been thinking about trying. Recently I've been thinking about the Beastmen too. I havent sat down with the book for them though. How do the Beastmen compare to the Woodelves?

Beastmen are reasonably similar, as they have core skirmishers (who can shoot AFAIK) and generally have no armour I think.

They have some nice Ogre class and monsters. They are more block based than Wood Elves and before (where they had lots of skirmishers) but who isn't?

I also play wood elves, and was looking for their opposite number!

I considered beastmen, but have decided to go with skaven. If I'd done beastmen I would have focused on minotaurs, and it just didn't seem different enough from the treekin that I currently use to do it.

Skaven on the other hand have numbers (boy, do they have numbers!) and run in blocks, rely a lot on combat resolution, and don't have too many skirmishing units. They seem pretty different from wood elves from what I've seen so far, so that's what I'm going with

I think you might be frustrated by WoC if you make an army that is too slow... so that's something to consider. Ogres would be really cool, imho!

Any other army would probably do just fine. Most people see Wood elves as missiles only, but from what I have faced its all about movement. I get flanked everywhere. No other army really has movement like that, so really you could play anything and it would be a different experience. I would suggest Orcs & Goblins personally. It's more of a LOL & FUN army rather than being serious or trying really hard to win.
