Subject: Warpstone Token, reuseable?
|
 |

Mysteriously got locked by individuals that are uninterested in reading original posts.
The warpstone token entry (like all magic items) is split into two parts: a flavourful description paragraph and a game mechanics paragraph.
The question to you: Unlike other magic items, do you choose to take its rules from its description rather than its rules paragraph?

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

The last thread was split between "It does not explicitly say One Use Only" and "it clearly states the token is consumed in the rules section". This one will be, too.

It doesn't say consumed in the RULES section.

I think we can all agree that there's people who feel strongly about this on both sides of the issue. The Storm banner doesn't say one use only, though most play it that way, though RAW, you'd be justified in re-using it.
This will likely remain a point of contention until FAQ'd and I don't see this thread ending too pleasantly if we go down that rabbit hole again.
That said, as a default, I go off the Rules section for an item only.

Because them NOt being one use only is, frankly, slowed?
Have a look at Thanquol: if you are truly, truly suggesting they are not one use only, then he is the most powerful wizard in WHFB: he can cast every spell from his lore with a large number of dice, every turn - and if he rolls a "1" gets to reroll to avoid it.
Even a normal Grey Seer has the equivalent of 1-3 extra power dice a turn, base, and for 15 points can repeatedly add more - making a Slaan look underpowered.

the FAQ is out! Somebody lock this useless thread. Warpstone tokens ARE one use only.

[Edit] Well ok, so six people already said it. It's exciting. Sue me.

Technically its in the errata section meaning its a change. So before this came out they weren't one use only. Otherwise they would have just clarified it instead of changing the ruling.

Here's my opinion on the issue; Even if you consume something, doesn't mean you can't reuse it. If you want an example of this, swallow a marble, unless your digestive acids are troll like, you should be able to reuse the marble 8-10 hours later. :-P
Shame they fixed it though, it was fun watching the skaven players at my flgs argue with everyone else.

I'm curious to know how many people were taking grey seers with 6 'unlimited use' tokens. 7-9 tokens, on top of 6 power dice, would have made for a truly mad single wizard magic phase!

I think the only folks who really tried to run this tactic were using Thanquol, as you had a crap load of tokens and got to reroll your 1s for wounding yourself.
Still - glad the FAQ fixed it - eliminates the argument.

"tactic" in inverted commas. Its the sort of thing that would have gotten you chucked out of any tournament I know, assuming they allowed SCs in the first place....

There are tournaments that don't allow you to use your army book in the UK? That sounds terrible...

No, just tournaments that think the concept of special characters is gak. You can still use the rest of your armybook just fine. You know, the bit where you have to decide for yourself?
