Can an Iron priest still join other units? are they still independant characters?

Its said (or in this case did not say ) that Iron Priest are independant characters and can no longer join units making them almost useless? and eventhough it the fact the lead on to them being able to join other units. In the old codex they are stated as Independant characters so why have they not kept with tradition ?

Does the codex say they are?
No, it doesn't. They are not, and canot join other units. You can give them a unit of Thralls and wolves though.

As for why, who knows, we didn't write the codex.

Maybe it was done to prevent this exact thing happening?

Yeah would be overpowered to have that sort of unit in such a fast moving Land Raider, better not let this happen.

Naw, what we need are Deep Striking Thunderhammer/StormShield Jump Infantry that Re-roll Reserves, Scatter only 1D6", Can Re-Reoll the Scatter and Also Assault the Turn they come in. That's balanced, Right? RIGHT?

But any ways does this not make the iron priest kinda usless seeing as he would have to have a seperate form of transportation due to not having the rule making him have his own rhino so he could actually reach other downed vehicles .

but that would make him like some slowed bicycle repairr man having to chase down a land riader stuck in the middle of a hornets nest a rhino aint gonna make it into that and the transport is more then half the guy >.>
who needs bodyguard to protect a 50 point model >..<

Put the Iron Priest on a Thunderwolf and give him the maximum size unit of Cyberwolves. A unit of T5 critters with a 19-24" charge range. Hide them behind advancing Rhinos or something and get a nice turn two charge.

Or take a maxed out Iron Priest (saga of the iron wolf) unit with 4 wolves and 3 servitors (without weps) then stuff them inside a land raider redeemer (12 unit capacity, the unit takes up 12 slots)

then you have an auto-repairing land raider redeemer that gets there faster, and when it dies you have a T5 majority unit (4 wolves at T5, 3 servitors and 1 techy at T4) that hits with 7 "powerfist" attacks on the charge along with a decent splash of wolf attacks.

Its pretty scarey actually, nothing wants to get close to the redeemer, then when something DOES melta-kill it, you just assault whatever that is with your Iron Priest and crush it in close-combat.

I've used it with much success in more than a couple of tournaments.

Its an interesting thing to think about, but I prefer him NOT being an IC, it means that he can't be singled out in combat, and with all his cheap friends it works very well.
