Hey all.

So, as you probably now know, I'm in a bit of a bind, in that I can't pick what my next army project should be. I'm looking to do something interesting and unusual, and so have narrowed it down to 3 choices after much humming and 'arring. I've listed the pro's and cons of each force imo underneath, and I would appreciate it if someone could give me a hand in making a choice. Thanks in advance

Choice one-Dark Eldar
Pros-Okay, they're not that unique, but they're still pretty rare. Plus, no-one at my local club plays DE.
I've had a kind of obsession with them for a while, and this gives me a chance to realize it finally.
They have an official codex, so there's no arguments abou count-as.
Plus, if I start playing them now, when the new edition of the codex inevitably comes out and I get caught up in the fever no one can accuse me of bandwagon jumping!
Cons-Those models...aren't beautiful. I think I like them more than many others do, but still its hard to ignore their...interestin aesthetic.
It's a real finesse army, from what I gather. A steep learning curve it would appear, and I'm not sure I have the required dedication or commitment to cope.

Choice two-Beastmen IG
Pros-Inspired by Dakka's whitedragon P&M blog about his beastguard (which I really do recommend you look at), I think I could do some cool things with this.
A very rare army concept, so bound to turn some heads.
Look surprisingly simple to do-very important with a lazy sod like me.
Cons-Expensive-having to buy two kits for every unit. It would mean my army would grow very slowly, and then I risk losing momentum.
Might be difficult to explain why those Minataurs with heavy weapons are only strength and toughness 3.

Choice 3-Squats (gasp!)
Pros-okay, you're probably looking at me odly now, but even though I most likely wasn't even born when they were discontinued I love Squats! Thier background as grumpy space Engineer bikers appeals to me, which is one of my most important factors when chosing an army.
Rare in the extreme. Most kids won't even have heard of a squat, let alone know they used to be a playable race.
Lots and lots of conversion oppurtunities-they'd be able to keep me going till a new squat codex is released (I.E Ragnarok)!
Cons-again, expensive-but not quite so much.
Since I usually play in GW's nowadays, they might get a bit...annoyed about me using thier black sheeps.
Hardest to pick an appropriate codex for them-they're to tough to be guardsmen but not tough enough be Marienz in my eyes.

Thanks in advance

Well I think you should go for the beastguard. Squats are difficult to get right. I have seen lots of squat armies on the web but (from what I know about them, I'm not an expert as they were out before me) they seem to be missing something. They are also hard to find a reasonble codex to use for them.

The dark Eldar idea is ok but I really suggest wait until they are updated. The rumors about them are getting more frequent so there is chance they are on the horizon. You will kick yourself if you finish a whole army then find out new models are being released in a month or two.

Beast IG often come out well. I personally thing a mix of beasts and catachan looks better than cadians but it's up to you. If you make theme them around having a specialist role E.G. fighting on forests/ jungles they would make more sense fluffwise. You want to include minotaurs? What did you think orgryns were for?

No, not gasp. . .

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

Thanks for the feedback. I was planning on using Catachan parts for my Beasties if I settled on that idea, as its the only place the 'roid arms don't look ridiculous. I was considering using Minataurs as Ogryns, but as I found out playing a proxie game a while ago when I had some mad urge to paint 200 cadians (and I'm going to paraphrase one of HBMC's best quotes here)-Minataurs make good Ogryns, but they won't make Ogryns good.

OK the orgryn idea wasn't great, depending on whats more important, theme or keeping it competitive. However I had another idea. Ok this might be a bit weird (and potentialy a nightmare to make, although they would look awesome) but what about a minotaur in a heavy armoured suit (think ork meganob) with a built in gun that counts as a scout sentinel.

How about Praetorian Guard? You don't get much rarer than that, and they look nice on the tabletop too.

WARNING! WARNING! YOUR SARCASM SNIFFER 5000 IS BEING SUBJECTED TO LEVELS HIGHER THAN WARRANTY COVERS!!!

Hmm, 1 is nice, being you know the least played yet most admired army. 2 is a better what with a Codex release in the last decade, but yes kits are going to be costly. Finally 3, is essentially the deep dark desire of many players, you just lack... a codex and some sort of... "Feeling". As 4M2 said the Squats have some unifying element that just needs to be there...

For your wallet, 1. For your competitive ego, 2. For your desire, 3.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
Lets settle this in the arena http://pantsformer.mybrute.com
