With Boneswords and Scything talons I have found these guys to be dangerous hq/ic/psyker hunters. With such a large range they are hard to get away from and can take a screen of gargoyles, also useful, to have a mobile cover save. Have you guys had similar sucsess and if not what have been the problems?

Fragile and expensive, unless you're playing on tables with lots of cover. I agree with you that knocking out small elite enemy squads is their best use.

Personally, I prefer Raveners with rending claws, over winged warriors. They are Cheaper and are beasts. so they have fleet, and a 12' assault range. So it is possible for them to move 24" in a single turn.
Shrikes are much better at hunting Psykers of course.
They just get to expensive, and fragile for my tastes.

In an army with lots of fast elements and a lack of forward synapse I would definitely consider some shrikes. Else I think I agree with Sasori. It also depends a fair bit on how much terrain you usually play with.

If you play against marines they'll get murdered by Bolter fire. The difference between a 4+ and a 5+ is really big when the most common gun in the game is AP 5.

You could always take some Gargoyles to give them some cover.

There is 1 giant problem with winged warriors/shrieks
Shrikes are not a scoring unit. Regular warriors are a scoring unit. Warriors deep striking in a pod and still count as a scoring unit.
A 5 point increase and the downgrading of a 4+ to a 5+ for wings is totally worth it. Downgrading from a scoring unit to a nonscoring unit goes straight past bean counting your points carefully to outright defeat. Being a troops choice is straight up the ability to win the game in 2/3 missions. Warriors are too expensive of a unit to take if they lose the ability to win the game.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole |
