I have several images in the form of JPEG, but when i do upload them they are just solid grey images. Do i need to change their format?

JPEG should work fine , thats what i use o_o

I successfully uploaded one image, but some of my images are still gray blocks. Not sure why this one worked. I'll keep trying to see if i can get it to work.

It means your images are corrupted in some way and are not standard jpegs. Try saving/converting them in a different software program before you upload (if you are uploading direct from the camera or after tweaking in a program).
