Couldn't find the answer but can a greater daemon possess the body of a champion of chaos that is falling back and cant regroup because the unit is under half strength.

Nothing states the Daemon cant do so.
This would require not using Cult troups though

The rules state it must posses a champion, aspiring sorcerer, sorcerer of chaos or chaos lord.
There are no other restrictions so if you meet that criteria then yes you can.

Yup, that squad leader doesn't deserve to live if his squad is running away...possessed away  .
But chances are things aren't going well if the GD has to possessed a falling back unit...

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

It doesn't have to be escorted, if they be underhalf, they escort themselves .
And in most cases it's a rhino doing the escorting... go ahead, charge and hit on 6's.
