Last night, I played a friendly game against an IG army that used Straken. Every time I charged, he would roll Ld and, if he passed, get +1A, +1S, and +1I. Consequently, I never went first in an assault and always got power weaponed to fungal mush. How can I counter this counter to my charge?

Something with Straken, units within 12" get Furious Charge and when they are assaulted, they get to count as charging if they pass a Ld test.

At least, that's what he said.

He's mostly just sitting there waiting to be assaulted...thin out his numbers with some burna boys and you might have it

Its true Claypool you've been had.
Counter-attack only gives you an extra attack as if you had charged, but you still don't count as charging thus recieveng no bonus I or S for Furious Charge.

Well it happens. He probably didn't do it on purpose. It can still make bulk guard unis nasty, but they have to sacrifice shootiness to do it. Just shoot them first, to lighten your load, then charge, also hellhounds are target priority for hoard armies.

Eternal Plague

Turning some of those slugga boyz into shoota boyz may help a bit as well. Sit out of charge range and shoot the bejeezus out of them. Then if they get within your charge range, bash their 'eads in wit yer shootas. Shoota shooting helps make ur orkies a bit more versatile.

also grotzookas would help or any anti-infantry unit as guard saves suck as much as ours (shootas would help too but lootas suck as anti infanty)

If you really want to be evil, replace one or two of those Killa Kan mobs with batteries of Lobbas. They're 2+ to wound Imperial Guard Infantry, deny them armour saves, and cause pinning. Plus they're G48" so you can stick them behind a building and they'll cheerfully shell the Imperial Guard all game.

As for the Hellhounds: Get Tankbustas!

Don't even need tankbustas, lootas will work just fine. Front armour is what? 13. Putting out 20 (average roll for medium sized squad) strength 7 shots into the side, which is easy to get via positioning, will piss them off. (side armour 12) I prefer the longer range and versitiliy of lootas, tankbustas can move and shoot, but because of their short range they have to go to the enemy armour, often getting caunght out of cover.

Hellhounds are Front Armor 12. As are Vendettas. And any vehicle that isn't Sentiel or Russ.
