Okay, so way back in third edition I had planned on having a sniper team for my orks using the 3rd edition loota rules which allowed them to be equipped as a marine scout squad. I was going to name them the Shap-Shootas.

Anyways, with the way the current rule book is written, I'm unable to run them like I had originally envisioned, but I was wondering if there was any reason I couldn't build some boyz with sniper rifles and call them Lootas. I know that the DeffGunz are awfully powerful to be used with sniper stand ins, but it's the closest I come to having snipers.

I'll eventually get pics of the first one I made, but until then I'll just ask:

Would anyone balk at having Lootas be made up of a unit of orks carrying sniper rifles? Is it too far of a stretch?

I apologize if there was a better section I could have listed this under.. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out which would be better. Mods, please feel free to move this if need be. Thanks.

I would have no problems with that. Orks can loot anything. I actually had the same idea in the old codex, but that was a while before I started up Orks!

Should be fine - there's no possible confusion with any other ork weapons. Fluffwise, the orks have captured some sniper rifles and their mek has built some experimental new ammo that has the same effect as loota gun ammo.

I think it sounds awesome both in fluff, and in concept, and eagerly anticipate seeing one. To be honest, there was an Exitus rifle in my black friday warstore mega grab bag that I now know how to use

I still have a unit of lootas with sniper rifles (Orks that hit on a 4+? WOOHOO!) that I use in games and NOBODY has said a thing to me about it being unfluffy. Personally I do not care for the fluff surrounding the current guns as per how it translates to the models. Soooo, an assault cannon has the same stat line as a fusion gun?

My friends and I are considering running a campaign, and each of us would get to have a special character and a special unit. I was thinking of making up rules for Grot snipers of some sort to act like scouts.

Also, if anyone ever questions it fluff wise, you can say they are Blood Axes or Smartboyz or something who are actually smart enough to take aim with their guns rather than just shooting wildly.

Great idea!

I too am planning (along with a zillion other things) to make a sniper Ork or two, for some special kill team missions. The thought is pretty cool, and the conversion possibilities will be awesome for sure. Show some pics when its getting done, and good luck

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Lootas are BEST, IMO, when they are mixed up, weapon-wise, from the standard box. I'm not a big fan of the shoulder-mounted gun kits. After all, they are LOOTERS, so everything should be jumbled and mixed up. As long as I know what the snipers are, then I'd be all extra cool with it. Good luck with your project.

I do not have any pics, but when I put mine together I used Bolters with Kroot barrels and that looked pretty good. Then through some capes on them. Wish I had put them in more dynamic poses, but there is still time.

i love the idea of orks with snipers, and was happy in the old codex you could have such a sight! but alas i started orks a bit after the new codex came out.

i still wish to make some snipers, show some pics, would love to see what you had in mind.
