I want to be able to do melee without getting own in the face. with codex marines, my current list is
2 Tactical marine squads (10 each) (170 points a squad)
Librarian (terminator armour) (Machine curse and Smite) (150) points
1 Terminator squad (200 points)
Dreadnought (115)
Thunderfire cannon (100)

Open to suggestions and upgrades, please post

If you are planning CC with this force its going to be really rough. You have zero mobility with everyone trying to footslog across the board. The opponent will pick you apart one by one. I would probably lose the cannon and get two rhinos. Then use the left over points for special weapons. You might consider losing the termies for another dread and using the leftover points in maybe a predator?

How about instead you take:

HQ:
SM Captain - 100pts

Troops;
10 Man Tactical Squad - 180
-Flamer
-Lascannon
10 Man Tactical squad - 180
-Flamer
-Lascannon

Eliet:
Ironclad Dreadnought - 145
-Heavy Flamer
-Melta
Ironclad Dreadnought - 145
-Heavy Flamer
-Melta
Dreadnought - 125
-Autocannon
-Autocannon

Heavy Support:
Thunderfire Cannon - 100

That load out is exactly 1000 points. Ironclad Dreads are absolute beasts in close combat.

Alternitly drop the shooty dread for a AC/HB Predator and change one of the lascannons to a missle launcher and you can get two drop pods for your Ironclads.

Here's what you should do:

Drop the Termmies. Get another Dread and get 3 DPs and 1 Rhino.

Drop the libby to stock and take Nullzone and Avenger or Smite. Never ever bother with Machine Curse.

Dump the TFC for a Dakka Pred (or Hybrid Pred if you've the points). TFC are far too squishy you need 2 to make it worth while or not even bother with 1.

DP both the Dreads with MM on turn 1, give them both Heavy Flamers too. Take apart your opponent's vehicles and then go after his troops. At 1,000 points he'll probably struggle to deal with 2 Dreads.

The other Tac squad follows up in the Rhino and the Pred sits back and fires. The last Tac squads objective grabs when it lands with the Libby Avenger will work really well to help you clear any objective you are landing on (as any Troops you are up against will be Sv3+ or worse in almost every case).

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com
