The campaign is launched and we have 14 players involved. It was a great night and it looks like the week of planetfall battles will generate lots of carnage! The initial strike went to the Imperium!

Sounds fun-- you should definitely get some batreps or at least a narrative of the campaign as it progresses up on here or the cbnb blog.

Some fluff to get the theme of the campaign going... battle results to follow

“It doesn’t look like much to die for”, thought Brother Captain Leonas of the Ultramarines 7th Company as he gazed across the dreary, arid landscape of HX5209, a world so dull it didn’t even deserve a proper name. Yet if necessary, he and his men would do just that to ensure the success of their mission. Several weeks ago, while on routine patrol of the local sector of space, his ship had intercepted a distress signal from a squad of Blood Angels, emanating from the small moon upon which he now stood. What they were doing there Emperor only knows, but Leonas and his men were here to find out. Still, the moon didn’t look like a glorious place to die at all.
Hundreds of miles away, Farseer Aurona’s thoughts were not so different from those of the venerable Brother Captain; though she had a better idea of the scope and importance of her mission. For HX5209, known as Nexus to her people of the craftworld Alaitoc, was a key hub in the warp spanning network known as the webway, and it was under threat. Minions of the chaos gods had identified the importance of the world, and even now were knocking at the entrance of the sacred webway. Devious were the powers orchestrating this assault, for the Farseers of Alaitoc should have seen this much sooner. Nevertheless, Aurona and her forces were here, in time to avert disaster, hopefully.
Unknown to either, yet another power had arrived in the area, the one responsible for the disappearance of the Blood Angels, and as the hive mind gazed through the eyes of its creatures upon the world. It felt the potential that existed there. The potential to spread. And to feed…

The hive mind looked down at the dead blood angel through the eyes of the the humble termagants that were feeding on the gene-seed. It the distance the termagants could hear the sonic boom of objects entering the atmosphere. HMMMM! fast food delivery..........

As Typhus placed his foot onto the soil of the small moon he smiled. There were many souls on this small rock that he could send to grandfather Nurgle. Everything on this world would wither and die in his iron grasp. Abaddon was a fool and was loosing the gods favor, and conquering this moon would allow Typhus to finally kill the whelp. All he needed was the webway.

As the bugs were just about to move on to the next all you can eat buffet, the skys opened up and down landed two meals from heaven. Out of the pods came forth twenty snacks that last only seconds once the hive mind gave the order to eat and enjoy. Then out of thin air canned food apeared ( aka terminators) they smashed throw one of the largests of owe ranks. In response fiffty of owe troops charged and enjoyed.

The exarch didn't even have time to flinch as a bright lance beam plowed into his wave serpent, sending it crashing to the ground. "What?", he had time to splutter before the jolt took him off his feet, as the inertial dampeners overloaded. "Uthwe", thought Farseer Aurona as she saw the black shapes materialize across the muddy riverbed. Inscrutable, as always, the damned craftworld's troops were deploying without the assistance of transports. "What are they playing at?", wondered the farseer, "this shouldn't take long." Despite losing her fire dragon support to a lucky bright lance shot, the rest of her force seemed perfectly positioned to take their brother eldar out without much loss.

Then the Avatar appeared.

Striding out from behind two wraithlords, every eldar on the field took in a collective breath at the sheer majesty and destructive potential standing before them.

Then they charged.

A squad of dire avengers made their way towards a group of pathfinders, set up in advance of the main force, who were harrying their vehicles. Another squad of avengers and a squad of banshees activated their star engines and zoomed straight into the Uthwe lines. While doing so a pair of fire prisms wrecked their destructive potential on Uthwe scorpions and dark reapers standing in the open, slaughtering all but the exarch's leading them.

Uthwe, however, was not about to give up without a fight. Leading the Avatar, two wrathlords, wriathguard, and a squad of storm guardians, the Uthwe farseer charged towards the banshees. The Alaitoc exarch, thinking quickly, sheltered in the cover of her wave serpent and sent shuriken and bright lance fire into the approaching mob. Able to catch them in the open, the banshees shredded countless guardians with their fire before charging into the fray. Helpless to aid their brave comrades, the rest of the Alaitoc eldar watched on as the banshees fought against numerous foes. The guardians were slain, as was the farseer, sliced asunder by the exarch's executioner blade. Yet, despite losing their spirit guide, the tough wraithguard inflicted horrific casualties on the banshees.

Then the Avatar strode in.

After, it turned and faced the Alaitoc farseer, with a scant few wraithguard still standing. Acknowledging it's defeat, it stepped back through an unseen (and unknown to Alaitoc) webway entrance and vanished with it's guard.

Despite securing victory, Farseer Aurona's force was far from untouched. Both fire prisms lay burning in the mud, victims of the wraithlords bright lances. The banshees and about half of the avengers lay dead as well. Luckily, all the spirit stones remained intact.

"Such a waste," thought the farseer as they examined the area for more unseen webway entrances. "What were they up to?"

"And why summon an Avatar?"

"Nuts!"
