Recently a friend and I were playing a friendly game where I tried to shoot at him with a pair of flamers from a rhino. An onlooker came over and told us that flamers could not be fired from enclosed transports. Options from the CSM dex allow combi flamers to be bought for LRs, which leads me to believe that flamers can be shot from transports. I was wondering which view was correct.

Thanks

The onlooker was correct.

By the strict RaW, you cannot place any part of a Template over your Hull (for a vehicle firing) or the Hull of the transport you are in (for closed topped transports). As such, Template weapons from vehicles and non open topped transports have a difficult time actually firing legally, and in the case of a Rhino, it's 110% impossible to fire from the fire point legally with a Template Weapon, Not too sure on the combi flamer, not actually seen one.

However, it is the consensus of 99% of people that this is just sloppy rules writing and allow you to fire said templates anyway.
Just be aware that this is not what the RaW actually says, so don't be annoyed if someone does want to play by the rules.

Of course, if someone is annoyed by this, ask them what rules they used to deploy their troops. Since there are no rules for deployment, you must be playing some made up game anyway, and can use whatever rules you like.

If there are no rules for deployment, what do you roll for after rolling for the mission type?

Thanks everyone. We played that you could fire the flamers, and after the game I went over to his and reminded him that his vindicators do not use the blast marker (he was playing BA).

If I encountered someone that would try to "enforce" that ruling, I wouldn't get annoyed, I would just quit playing the game before it got any farther than that. My time is to precious to waste it playing a game with a rules nazi.

Quite frankly, that says a lot more about your character than that of any "Rules Nazi".

I agree with Inquisitor_Syphonious. If you pulled that at my store (which I used to run the club aspect of, alas it is closed now) you would not be getting many games again, simply because of your attitude.
