Of all the possible ideas, I think the retinue bodyguard is the best one, with the fortuned 3/5 save and Maj T6.  But, even then, I think a better defenece for a Farseer is being an IC, behind some troops of any kind, that way he isnt targetable at all...  That said, good ideas for the useage, this thread has some good material, in summary:

1 Use 3-5 Wraithguard as a T6 bodyguard for a seer, fortune/conceal them.

2 Use a small wraithguard squad as a shock unit with waveserpent, in situations where return fire on firedragons would get them killed.

3 Use them to hold an objective on your side, (assuming mission has objective).

4 Use them as the 2 mandantory troop choices: (Base an army around 2x10 and avoid painting lots of cheaper troops).

5 Good vs Nightbringer and Monoliths. (If you have a regular necron opponent.)

Some of these are pretty conditional, based on mission and some foresight of an enemy's army.  While I still don't think Wraithguard are generally very good, these suggestions and tactics seem reasonably solidly based.  Thanks for your contributions!

Anymore?

One important factor that i think is being overlooked is that you can cram 5 Wraithguard + Babysitter Warlock + another (regular) sized character.

I have had a chance to test it yet, but I look forward to testing 5 WGuard, Spiritseer w. Singing Spear, Destructor or Enhance, and tack on a Autarch (if i ever take one) or a Farseer w. singing spear, fortune, guide & doom mounted in a WaveSerpent.

We're talking about the ultimate spot cleaner here.

Got a Bloodthirster or Daemon Prince you don't want to deal with? Are Monoliths getting you down? No problem - send in the Eldar Scrubbing Sensation - Wraithguard On a Plane. There's nothing it can't stop...

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I'm a pretty experienced Eldar player, and in the last codex I added a squad of Wraithguard "just for fun", and, well -- they sucked.  There's really no reason why you wouldn't rather have other types of infantry for the same price.

The fearlessness is awesome, esp since Eldar leadership sucks altho I haven't tried the new Avatar yet.

Every anti-tank shot being fired at a Wraithguard is one less being shot at a Wraithlord or Skimmer.  And you can give them conceal.  Make two or more conceal saves and you're starting to mitigate the 35 pt cost.  Plasma needs a 3+ to wound, better than a 2+.  Everyone knows a 2+ is a sure thing and a 3+ is a probably.

I wasn't using fortune I was using guide which turned 5 wraithguard into an effective 18" vehicle threat.  Pretty good on a 4x4.

For a 2000 point game I wouldn't hesitate to take a 4 to 6 man squad if I had an elites choice, "just for fun" esp if I had something like 2x WL w/ a Falcon and 2 Wave Serpents and Vypers.  I would only take > 4 man to maximize the effect of conceal.  I've always thought they were wasted on a wave serpent.  When I use them I like to use Wave Serpents as shock troops, especally when the squad inside doesn't have fleet -- nothing worse than you were trying to flank or snipe a vehicle in this case, and then the squad gets shot down and has to walk.

Easy painting and a novelty model is definately a plus.  Plus you can ponder ominously about how dire the threat is that you have to summon the souls of the dead.

One other problem, which has almost no place in a tactics thread, is that the models are ridiculously expensive. I think you could always do a creepy conversion from Wood Elf Dryads to knock down the cost, they look to be very roughly the same size..

I'm a big fan of the 3 man squad + spirit seer with Spear. This is a cheepish sqaud that can lurk behind terrain or wraithlords and packs a very powerful punch on vehicles and other high cost units that break though the front lines. It's good in an infantry heavy list. It's more of a Safety/reserve unit then main attack.
