The nice thing is you can use HorrorClix minis with HeroClix minis. However, the points/powers don't scale quite the same way between the two systems (HeroClix being more powerful for the points paid per model). Also, the special abilities, although different for each system, have corresponding matches between the systems. This makes for fun events like "Justice League versus the Never Ending Tide of Zombies" or "Avengers versus Cthulhu".

What's so bad about the game? (Help me make my sanity check!)

Here Malfred, this should help you make your own decision.

Horrorclix Quickplay flash:

Free Horrorclix Rules PDF:

What I did? I bought everything off of ebay for cheap (except for cthulhu, he was given to me by a nice gentleman from detroit, because he had two.), since I have discerning tastes concerning what monsters I want to use.

The rules are already free, you can get the plot cards and victim tokens from ebay for a buck. If you buy any of the AVP action sets, they come complete with everything you need for a 500 pt force (pretty big force actually) as well as maps, plot twists, victims, minions etc.

I bought my Alien Collector sets through ebay
search.ebay.com/search/search.dll

As well as a Predator Collector set:

I had to buy the AvP stuff through ebay as the only way to purchase them was to buy tons of Horrorclix and redeem a coupon to buy the AvP sets through wizkids. I found some deals however, that were cheaper than buying them from wizkids by about $10 and I didnt have to buy a single pack of horrorclix to get them.

Pirate Ship Revenge

I looked at this stuff last week at the store I was in.
I'm lucky I didn't have any cash on me and was expecting some bills to pay headed my way. I'd have walked out of there with Cthulhu, the Alien Queen and anything else I could lay my mits on. It's all that cool.
Soon, if I can find the time. Warmachine's the thing right now. but as oon as I feel like a break from Warmachine I'll be playing HorrorClix.
On a side note I bought Illuminati yesterday. I can't wait to play it again!

I have nothing useful to add.

Well, it all depends on personal preference really, but for me the game lacked any reall interest.  I may as well be playing a card game or a board game, rather than using miniatures.  It's probably no better nor worse than any "clix" game, but the rules are minimal - not in itself a bad thing, look at chess after all, but unlike "traditional" wargames there is no "character" to the game.  You are pushing around a random collection of monsters fighting another random collection of monsters with a few limted differences in methods of attacking and killing.  There are one or two more advanced scenarios, but they aren't that advance.  The main game is "paper, scissors, stones" with little plastic dolls.  None of the things that are good about a wargame - such as "combined arms", range considerations, etc.  It really is more of a board game than a tabletop game as such.

Fair enough for a bit of fun one rainy afternoon, but frankly I'd rather spend my money on something with some more staying power.  Think "board game" rather than "wargame" and you'll get what I'm talking about.  The difference is that with a boardgame you get everything n the box.  With clix games you either have random packaging issues or pay silly money on eBay for "game winning" models (or even worse, don't and face an opponent who has done that and get hammered into the ground - just like with Magic and other CCG's)

Of course this could just be the rantings of a bitter old man against two of his pet peeves - plastic models and "collectible" (for which read "rip-off sales tactics" games.

Using the (admittedly rather nicely sculpted) minis for some other, more traditional, games.  Now that's a different story!

Cheers
Paul

The HorroClix (and some of the HeroClix) minis make for great miniatures fodder for Modern RPG's like ShadowRun or Modern D20.
