I know , I know Slann WTF with the updates lets get this on the ball already , I know ..... I been busy now I can get back into this bad boy and get some work done !

I havnt totaly stopped work on my beloved guard I picked up 2 valks which I freggin love model and game wise , and got some new comcepts I want to add to this army . Its not much but here are some pics to get this going agian ..

I had an idea I wanted to give my guard kinda a more gritty cadia look so I went towards and army of two look , a game I got into with my 2 sons and I love the look of the ballistic masks they wore . so I thought thats it , the little something I was looking for to make this my own gritty cadia force .

Seriously though, slann, I think your style of painting is so totally awesome and beyond anything I put out... I just wanted you to know that. It stops being art imitating life and becomes art being simply art! Very visually pleasing, all those short strokes. Like a Monet painting (miniature impressionism FTW!).

That Mohawk Sarge is coming very nicely. Where did you find that bolter? It really does look awesome.

Army of Two is a pretty sweet game, I thought about making some marine conversions of them but thought against it. Guard conversions would be awesome, though, especially for stormtroopers or veterans.

Thanks for the kind words I picked up this style a fews years back and started to really dig it , Its kinda like my signiture now on my minis . I have been looking to also get into painting in a muted monchrome realism look but thats down the road with more practice .

For the storm troopers Iam just going to rock the karsakins I love them as is . With the vets though Il give them the army of two bulky shoulder and leg pads and some gun shields , I have another head swap for them though .

The bolter is from the space marine bike box I dont know if they still have them but they used to come with a sprue of like 3 of them .

Ah. Sadly they do not anymore then, because I just bought a ton of bikes last month (15 and an attack bike) and there was not such a sweet bolter on the sprue.

I love an interesting guard army and this is certainly quite interesting.

You're armour painting style is very different to mine and is very effective!

Finished some work on some more of those heads , also made progress on finishing this unit .

Got a hold of these bad boys , these will be the sgts. in the six squads of regulars I run in my normal take on all comers list .

Even those old OoP stormtroopers look better than the new metal kasrkin models

But anyways, great work so far! I run a guard army as well, so I'll be watching this blog and checking for other great ideas.

Whats with the all the hate of the kasrkin models There one of my favorite models. The third edition Stormtroopers suck. these oop are sooo much better than the new ones. Except for the identical ugly faces... eww

Sorry for the lack of updates on this Iam finishing up a comission project than Il get something new up on here .

Here is a sneak peek of my Iron vet unit , i will have a fluffy Bio for each one as I paint them and post them .

I was going for a kinda Army of two feel ( a video game for the xbox and ps3 ) I want them to appear as they have there own custom gear and can handle about any task . so They hav a lot of custom mods on there las guns , the have the ballistic face masks and some modded there las with ballistic shields , front grips , laser sites , well you get the idea .




The plastic stock was a cut up playstation network card for some extra mileage for my 20 bucks lol

These look great! I like the "Army of Two" feel that your are going for. I can't wait to see some of the fluff on them also.

So here is the first vet painted and ready to rock !

This is Ressco " Upgrade " Flintlock , Like all young cadian' s he was breaking down , cleaning , and putting his las gun together before he fully knew how to read . He was in the conscript platoon a fresh faced 16 year old boy quickyly being noticed by his field officers as a crack shot , he was put into the regular forces with the " crazy " 888 air drop division . He served with the 888th through the black campaign a campaign that was filed as top secret and little is known of the missions involved , not even the men involved speak about it and if the subject is touched its met with stone cold silence .







Upon returning from his missions in the Black campaign Ressco went on to work for the emperor on high priority missions this is where he was inducted into the Iron vet squadron and picked up the nickname " Upgrade " as you can see from the pics Ressco has a love for upgrading his gear , when his unit comes home for a short leave he runs to the nearest rogue trader to service his gear rather than ummm service himself like the others do . With his love for his upgraded gear and his skills with his las gun he acts as the units sharp shooter , as well as the units " hacker " . His gear consists of all sorts of scanners , stabilizers , ammo types , even a top of the line mini computer which he is often fiddling with on the units down time in the field .

Upgrade is one of the two only members of the iron vets to pick up an emperors seal , his is for marksmanship . The seal of marksmanship was given to him for killing The ork commander of Grazznlark a Stompa class titan from a hovering Valkyrie 275 yards out , which caused the Stompa's crew to become too unorganized to operate the huge titan , it was easy for the imperial navy to sweep in and finish it off .

Hope you enjoyed the first bio to the iron vet squad , I am new to writing fluff for my units on the forums hope you all enjoy it .

That is killer, slann. So you say he is the sharpshooter, so he is a sniper then? Good work. The fluff is a nice touch, giving reason to the way a model is equipped.

He looks the tops. What head does he have? Plus I love the Ao2 style gunshields

More to come tonite got 2 more done ! , as for the heads they ae necron heads with the lower jaw cut off its a hard bit to get necrons don't come with extra heads .

So got two more of these bad boys painted so here we go . This guy goes by his nick name only " Stryder " , Stryder's back round is well kept to himself he dosnt like to talk about his past much and when it is brought up its met with an uncomfortable stare . What is known is his impressive career as a soldier he was noted for his skills in close combat and trains soldiers ready to learn advanced sword and martial techniques . Styder loves getting in close and is usually sent ahead of his squad as the squads active scout . He is fast , quiet , and can drop his las gun and have his blade and pistol drawn faster than the eye can tell your brain there is a sword headed for your neck .

Stark " chef " Harren joined the cadian guard on his 15th birthday , and made his way into the mess hall where he was head cook and kept a well organized chow area . his true skills with a flamer was met when a tyranid invasion hit his base hard . Since than he was but into service in the Iron vet core . Chef is known for his endless supply of one liners things like " whats cooklin " as he pours flame over his enemy with " Lucy " his trusted heavy flamer , he also the one who give everyone there nick names , your truly not accepted to the iron vets til Chef has given you your nick name . Apart from being the squads cook and clutch heavy flamer he also has a strange and uncanny way of telling if someone is lying or not what they say they are , on this he is never wrong and only needs one good look . Its believed he has minor psychic abilities .




And a sneak peek at my Sly marbo stand in , he is part of the Iron vet squad working behind enemy lines setting up the ground work and signaling the squad when all is ready , the signal usually being a large explosion .

I love those new guys. What a great idea!!

That Sly Marbo stand-in is looking ace. I may have to steal some of this idea to make a Sgt. for my traitors I like the look quite a bit. and yes.... "Yoink!!"

Hahahaha , well didnt do 3 units yet but painted up another of the original unit .

This is Jason " Brick " Mafaroun He is one of the youngest to be inducted into the Iron veteran squad , but Probably one of the toughest . 3 time Cadian boxing champion by the time he was 22 years old Brick was noticed by his officer staff from the moment he picked up a las gun in defense of the Gates his brutal combat style and love of battle was inspiring amongst the troops and was quickly given a squad to command on his own , but his squad was cut off from the main lines and was lost to combat a size- able chaos force on there own . hence to say 6 days later with one eye missing limping but still standing walked into his company's command tent , walked up to the commanding officer knocking his lights out with one left hook to the jaw , than passing out himself .

Brick woke up in the infirmary with a commissar standing by the foot of his bed , He was handed orders for his new duty in the Iron veterans . On his way out the commissar said over his shoulder " shame you had to lose eye on the account of an incompetent flighty pampered officer ." shot Brick a sly smile and left the room .

Wow Slann, the name tags are freakin' spectacular! That really tops off the epic-ness of the paintjobs for me. I would love to steal... er... 'borrow' that idea, but I don't even think I could pull it off.

And agreed. The "demolished industrial sector" bases you've got on them look amazing. The whole squad just makes me go off in my pants every time I see them.

Thanks guys , at first I didnt know what to do with the bases but I thought they turned out ok with out going crazy on them .

I haven't got much paint time in but did some modeling on the second squad , umm can we say awesome street sweeper shot gun complete with drum clip .
