Emperors Faithful wrote:Well, what about situations where there COULD be a love story. And why (tragically) it wouldn't/couldn't/mightn't/shouldn't work out?
That would be Gaunt and Lilith, an Inquisitor from the book Ghostmaker. Also Gaunt and the one dudes daughter, because he said something along the lines of "I'd want to but after today I'll go back to being a Soldier and you'll go back to being a Noblewoman."
Um yeah...Tragic.
Really, it is.
But when I said possible love stories I was kind of reffering to 40k in general. You CAN make the scenario up if you want to. Don't limit yourself to just one author like Dan Abnett (blessed be his name).
Well I missed the tragic part, I only saw the wouldn't couldn't shouldn't part which applies
And in that case you won't find much. I haven't read much by any other author, because Goto doesn't... dosen't count. But IF he did then Gabe and Macha. And acouple of the other HH book authors but they seemed more focused on KILL IT ALL.

Nononononono!!!
You don't NEED and author!
Just make up a POSSIBLE situation yourself where there could be a relationship.

A radical inquisitor or chaos sorcerer and a unsanctioned psyker or a demonhost with a daemonette imprisoned in it don't seem too far outside the realm of possibility.
The machine spirit of a titan and it's princeps might be a more kinky possibility.
SoB and a priest might be a nice story of forbidden love...

Oh I see what you're getting at now, sorry I've got lots on my mind (girl problems, work)
Tell you what I'll see what I can come up with and post it for you.

How about a priest and a priest in an Abby near a small village on an Ecclesiarcal World, where the two of them tend to their flock and each other. Staring Toby McGuire and Robert Downey Jr...
No its not a real movie its a fake trailer for a movie R. Downey Jr's character was in it Tropic Thunder.
So right 40k love stories... I had an idea come to me about an Imperial Guard Sniper falling in love with either an Eldar Pathfinder or Tau Pathfinder sniper, while hunting them. Not a traditional love story at all more like stalker love I would guess.

(Whew) Well that's a reilef! I was actually worried there for a sec...
Any way its not out of scope for that kind of thing to happen in 40k. I guess he could use the pickup line 'I've got my eye on you babe'

"Don't Call Me Babe..."
Sorry, Barb Wire quote seemed apropos for 40k in this case...

Bar named Bactalk?
No I meant if you were being asked out by someone pointing a gun at you, you would have to at least think about it before answering, you'd wonder at how the sniper might take rejection.

Yeah, BAR = Browning Automatic Rifle.
Hmm... "Date me or I blow your head off..." ehhh... a smart sniper would offer her flowers instead...

LOL! Good one...
By the way, there is plenty of fighting where Guant and/or Cain is involved (though Cain more so dogs it).
With all that hate a Commissar dishes out, they all must have a little soft spot somewhere, it's just that if anyone knew they would laugh at them. (mabye not to thier face)

Cheese Elemental-Love does not bloom in 40k. Love burns. It gets turned inside out, set on fire, raped, shot with bolters, and beaten with a crowbar.

People tend to notice Pariahs. If you're in a crowded room with one, everyone's killing themselves.

I didn't say love blooms in 40k, but even if it has been raped, set on fire, beaten with a crowbar and then fed to a hungry ripper it is still there.
No-one said these love stories have to end all fluffy-duffy. Gee, I guess in most cases they would end with 1 or both of the lovers being shot/stabbed/stepped on.

I am really surprised but no one mentioned Eisenhorns love for the Untouchable; its a classical romance story of two lovers who are unable to be with each other because of her being a untouchable and him being a psyker .
If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.
